WWE Champion John Cena wows fans with his attempt at a Scouse accent as his new film shot in Liverpool is released.

John Cena’s new film shot in Liverpool has been released today on Prime Video. The production of the Amazon film, Heads of State, came to Merseyside in 2023.

The 17-time WWE champion was spotted in an around the city while filming was underway. The 48-year-old stars as US President Will Derringer in the action comedy, which also stars Idris Elba as UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke. The two must set aside their differences after they are shot down in Air Force One and targeted by a ruthless adversary.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas plays MI6 agent Noel Bisset, who is helping the two leaders as they try to thwart a global conspiracy that threatens the free world. The film is is now available to watch on Prime Video after it was released today.

Liverpool Film Office has revealed the production was filmed at the Port of Liverpool building and St George’s Hall. The stars of the film, John Cena, Idris Elba and Priyanka Chopra were all spotted out and about in Merseyside enjoying the sights while production was in the city.

Cena, who is the current WWE Champion, was pictured working out at JD gyms on Dale Street when production of Heads of State came to the city. Ahead of his stay in the city, The Peacemaker star was introduced to the Liverpool accent when he sat down with BBC Radio 1 during a promotional tour of another film he starred in, Fast X.

The You Can’t See Me rapper was in hysterics as he was shown a viral video from The Redmen TV of a fan praising Sadio Mane after Liverpool FC defeated Hoffenheim 4 – 2 in 2017.

He copied the accent and repeated the lines from the video as he joked: “The kid’s nine and he’s that sharp. Razor wit. I didn’t have jokes like that when I was six. This kid’s three, he shouldn’t even be able to talk.”

Fans took to the comments and demanded more “Scouse Cena” and the Ricky Stanicky actor has once again been tested on the city’s accent during the press tour.

In an interview with talkSPORT on the red carpet last night, Cena showed off his Scouse accent. The post was captioned: “You NEED to hear John Cena’s Scouse accent on the red carpet!” In the clip, Cena was tested with saying “chicken and a can of coke”.

Fans took to the comments to share their surprise after the clip was shared on social media. Lewis said: “Never thought I’d ever hear John Cena attempt a scouse accent”

Ryan added: “Footage I never thought I would be seeing this morning ” JJ”K added: “He sounds Irish a bit” A user named Ryan agreed as he said: “Sounds Irish.”

Cena wasn’t the only Heads of State star spotted in Liverpool when production was in the city. Idris was spotted outside Papillon restaurant on Hope Street.
