Vicky McClure has revealed a “little secret” she has been keeping. The Trigger Point star has announced that the show has been renewed for a new series, with a fourth series now in production.
Series three has not yet hit screens, the latest series will come to screens in autumn. The Lana Washington star took to Instagram to reveal the exciting news in a video clip.
She said: “Hello, everyone. Look at those fingers. [holding four fingers up] I am on the set of Trigger Point three. We’re having a brilliant time, we’re nearly wrapped.
“It’s very explosive in there but I can’t show you. But what I can tell you is I’ve got a little secret. This is not the end, we are about to bounce into series four, it is coming to you.” Reflecting on her character in the much-loved show, she added: “I can’t wait to continue the story of Lana Washington and her colleagues.”
The crime-thriller TV series features Vicky as a bomb disposal expert in London. The show was first broadcast in January 23, 2022. Lana Washington is an ex-military bomb disposal operative (known as an ‘Expo’) and Afghan War veteran who heads a Metropolitan Police bomb squad, using her skills to counter terrorist threats involving explosives.
Trigger Point season two averaged 8.1 million viewers per episode and was streamed 30 million times on ITVX, following its debut in early 2024.
ITV’s Director of Drama, Polly Hill, said: “Trigger Point is one of ITV’s most-watched dramas of last year after Mr Bates vs The Post Office, so I’m delighted that this thrilling series is returning for a fourth series.
“I know audiences will be once again on the edge of their seat as Lana and the team take us on another thrilling ride to keep the capital safe.”
Vicky showed her appreciation in being able to keep the role of Lana, she told ITV: “We’re all buzzing ITV have such faith in this series to commission a fourth before the third has even aired. I love working with the team, we have a great time making the show and I cannot wait to continue Lana’s journey on Trigger Point.”
After posting the video to Instagram, Vicky was congratulated for her role being renewed. Leanne commented: “Brilliant News! Can’t wait to see new series 3 of Trigger Point with excellent actress Vicky McClure in Autumn 2025! Also fantastic news there is going to be a new series 4 of Trigger Point.”
Niesa added: “Looking forward to watch the new season and after that season 4. Liked the first two seasons very much.” Another fan of the actress wrote: “Never too much Vicky McClure I say”, alongside praising hand emojis.
The 42-year-old is also known for roles as Detective Inspector Kate Fleming in the BBC series Line of Duty (2012–2021) and Lol Jenkins in Shane Meadows’s film This Is England (2006) spin-offs that followed.
Some viewers may recognise Vicky as Karen White in ITV’s Broadchurch, and other roles such as in Filth and Wisdom (2008), Hummingbird (2013), Svengali (2013), and The Replacement (2017).
