Vernon Kay said he has plans to explore America with his family, following his previous admission about wanting to work there again. During an episode of his BBC Radio 2 show this week, the 51-year-old chatted to a listener, who expressed their desire to see more of the United States.
In response, Vernon suggested hiring a campervan to fully experience the country, and revealed he had plans to do the same. He advised the listener: “I think the best thing to do, if you’ve got time, is hire a campervan, you know what I mean? Do that thing.
“I know you work for the NHS, so time off is very sparse, but if you do get the chance, we’re going to do it, because like you said there’s so much of America you want to see, that’s not necessarily included in a package holiday.” Later on in the show, he offered some life advice after another listener revealed he had switched careers.
Commending his decision, Vernon remarked: “If you’re getting bored, you don’t have to stay in what you’re doing and remain bored for the rest of your life. You know what I mean? Up sticks and leave, do something. Just do it, take the plunge, why not, life is too short.”

Vernon brought up his trip to America, after previously admitting that he’d like “another crack” at working there. During an appearance on the Changes with Annie MacManus podcast last year, the presenter was asked about any changes he’d like to make in his life or the world around him.
“Well, flippantly, I’d like another crack at America because I think I messed up,” he revealed. “I did three network shows for America. I wouldn’t say I messed that up. I think looking back, I was inexperienced.
“I think, knowing, being more confident in myself and the way I work, I’d like another go at a game show in America. That’s a big change.”
Expanding on his American ventures, he explained he had “three chances” at presenting – two for broadcasting giant ABC, and one for NBC. “They lasted a series,” he disclosed.

“If you want a laugh, go on YouTube and watch a game show I hosted called the Million Dollar Mind Game. It’s basically me doing an impression of Roger Moore.”
Imitating himself, he continued: “‘Good evening and welcome to the Million Dollar Mind Game’.”
Vernon’s professional journey hasn’t always included presenting gigs. Prior to achieving recognition as a host, the husband of Strictly Come Dancing’s Tess Daly appeared as an extra in Hollyoaks, and he also tried out for the role of Rory ‘Finn’ Finnigan.
Additionally, he made fleeting cameos in Coronation Street, shooting scenes in the legendary fictional boozer The Rovers Return and corner shop The Kabin.
