Vernon Kay has candidly revealed “it was difficult” while discussing his family life with Tess Daly and their daughters.
The much-loved television duo, Vernon and Tess, are parents to teenagers Phoebe and Amber. This weekend was extra special for the family as they celebrated Tess’s 56th birthday on Saturday along with Mother’s Day.
Finding presents for both occasions in one weekend proved tricky, Vernon admitted during his segment on BBC Radio 2. He shared with his audience that it was a challenge to avoid getting similar gifts for both days, reports the Manchester Evening News.
He chuckled to his listeners: “We made it through the weekend, happy Mother’s Day to all those mothers who celebrated yesterday, bravo you, hope you were treated like a Queen and the goddess you are.
“I had a double, double this weekend. It was Tess’s birthday then it was Mother’s Day. Listen, listen, it’s so difficult not doubling down on the same present for two days, I’ll be honest with you.

“There was a lot of chocolate, a lot of cake. We had a good weekend. Went out for a nice lunch and then yesterday was just sit back, relax, and enjoy the sunshine, it’s here.”
Former Family Fortunes star Vernon and Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess met in 2001 when they were both at the start of their careers. Vernon was working for Channel 4 at the time with Tess a regular on rival station ITV.
Two years after that, the couple exchanged vows at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Horwich, near Bolton, and Vernon often gives his Radio 2 listeners a glimpse into their family life.

On Friday Vernon revealed there is one thing he has to avoid on Tess’s birthday. The presenter said he would be “in trouble” if he didn’t get the cake right.
Vernon confessed: “Well, the thing is, Tess loves cake. Yeah, and if I was to attempt cake and it wasn’t as good as what you can buy in the supermarket, then there’d be trouble, so I just buy in.”
Vernon’s revelation came after his colleague Ellie Brennan shared that her partner Steffan hadn’t gotten her a birthday gift before she left for work. Vernon chimed in, saying he’d “paid the price” for a similar mistake last year.
Having “learnt his lesson”, Vernon warned: “Steffan, been there, not done that and paid the price, so we are ready to go this weekend.”
