Traitors star Maia Gouveia has quickly become a fan-favourite on the BBC show, but when the reality TV personality isn’t trying to figure out who the Traitors are, she’s a busy mum
Since joining the thrilling contest at The Traitors’ castle from day one, Maia Gouveia has made a lasting impression as one of this series’ standout participants – but it’s her off-screen charm that truly captures hearts. Entering alongside her sister Armani, 25 year old Maia showed she wasn’t afraid to suspect sibling rivalry, confessing early in the game she was “60%” certain Armani was a Traitor.
In an intense twist, Armani found herself ousted from the castle after the other players rightly identified her as a Traitor. For Maia, nailing one of the original three Traitors didn’t soften the blow of her sister’s departure as she shed tears upon Armani’s reveal, saying: “Even though I know she’s a Traitor, that’s still my sister; she is everything to me, so it felt weird to betray her.”
When she’s not navigating the deceptions of the game, Maia is proudly dedicated to being a “full-time mum” to two year old Ava. Before stepping into the castle’s intrigue, Maia disclosed her motivation for joining the show: the significant expenses of parenthood. “Second one was the money. My daughter is going to nursery soon and that’s expensive. It’s like having a mortgage, so that was also a motivator,” Maia shared candidly about her involvement in the reality series.
Essex-based Maia has gained a following of over 26,000 on Instagram where she shares glimpses into her life as a mum. In one heartwarming post, the star of The Traitors reflected on motherhood in her twenties, reports the Mirror. “She makes me the best version of myself, how could I not be happy? ,” she penned.
On TikTok, Maia was already a sensation before joining the gameshow, boasting an impressive 150,000 followers and over 12 million likes across her videos. Before becoming a mum to adorable Ava, Maia captured the moment she took a pregnancy test at work, a video that has since been viewed 2.2 million times. In the footage, she is seen gasping and waving her hands in shock after the test turned positive.
“I have to work now and I just found out,” she exclaimed. Back in September, Maia announced that she was expecting her second child with partner Alex in a similar manner. After confessing that she’d been feeling “so sad” and “so moody”, Maia’s jaw dropped as she discovered she was pregnant again. Making light of the situation, she quipped: “I was meant to get wavey with the girls this week” before declaring that she needed to get her life “on track”.
Fans of the show can breathe a sigh of relief as it seems Maia and her sister Armani have reconciled after their intense showdown. Chatting on This Morning, Armani opened up about being ousted from the game, confessing she sensed “it was the end of” her journey.
Opening up on their strategy, she said: “She forgot. She would take one side of the room, I would take the other, and then we could come back and give our information to each other.” The contestant also expressed her support for her sister, saying: “Obviously, I would love my sister to win and then give me back half the money.”
