Former Coronation Street favourite Suranne Jones has teased the possibility of making a comeback to the renowned ITV soap.

Having carved out a successful career in some of the nation’s favourite crime dramas, including her acclaimed role in Doctor Foster and her memorable partnership with Lesley Sharp in Scott and Bailey, Suranne’s career has been on the rise since her days in Weatherfield.

Suranne first graced the streets of Weatherfield as Karen Phillips in June 2000, a fresh face that quickly became a household name.

More than two decades after her dramatic exit from the soap i2004, she hinted at a potential return during an interview with the Times: “If you had asked me two years after I left the show, I’d have said, ‘Absolutely not. I’m going to do all these things.’ But now it’s 21 years ago, it might be fun.”

Her stint on Corrie was full of drama, with her tumultuous romance with Corrie legend Steve McDonald (played by Simon Gregson) being a major highlight.

The couple’s whirlwind relationship saw them tie the knot twice, with their second wedding remaining etched in the memory of fans for the bombshell moment when Tracey Barlow (played by Kate Ford) revealed she had Steve’s child following a one-night stand.

After a dramatic twist on their second wedding day, Suranne’s character continued to face difficult times on the street, unable to mend her relationship with Steve and tragically suffering a miscarriage.

Her spell on the Street finally came to an end on Boxing Day in 2004.

Since then, her career has gone from strength to strength, following the path of numerous Corrie actors who have made a name for themselves after exiting the soap.

She is perhaps best recognised for her role as Detective Rachel Bailey in ITV’s Scott and Bailey from 2011-2016.
