Gemma Atkinson said her partner Gorka “got in trouble” when they both attended the Pride of Britain Awards earlier this year. Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez met in 2017 when they appeared on Strictly Come Dancing together, although the radio presenter was partnered with Aljaž Škorjanec, she formed a close and intimate bond with professional dancer Gorka.
Gemma has shared an insight into their relationship off camera on their podcast ‘Lost in Podcast’, she captioned a post on Instagram “Gorka got in trouble” as she told viewers: “We were at the Pride of Britain awards and because we don’t get to spend time together, I said to Gorka ‘should we go down the day before and make a few days of it’ and we booked a really lovely hotel.
“None of us really drink, I said I’m going to sit through the awards they finish at ten, then I am going to go to bed.” Gorka interrupted saying he wanted to go to bed at 9.30pm and they both agreed they weren’t going to stay around for the after party.
However, when Gemma suggested the couple go to bed, Gorka wanted to stay up because he was with his mates. He told Gemma on the podcast that he would have “one drink” and be about “an hour”.
But at around 10pm, the presenter said she went to bed and woke up about 2am and the professional dancer was nowhere to be seen. She said at about 2.15am Gorka returned to the room before their alarm sounded at 6.30am.
When they arrived home the following evening at around 10pm, Gorka said he was “fuming” because Gemma decided to unpack with the lights left on. The dancer admitted he couldn’t complain as he had “no right” after the previous night.
The couple share regular updates about their busy lives. In early February 2019, Gemma announced the news that she was pregnant with their first child.
Sharing a picture of her two dogs, Gemma told fans: “And what Amazing big brothers they will be! Myself & Gorks are beyond excited and happy and feel incredibly blessed to be meeting our new family member later this year. Baby Marquez.”
Gemma and Gorka became parents for the first time in July 2019, welcoming the adorable Mia Louise into the world. Two years later, in 2021, the couple announced their engagement to the world.
Gorka proposed to Gemma on Valentine’s Day as she shared a picture of her ring and wrote “Valentine’s forever… Of course I said yes.”
The couple have two children together after announcing the birth of Thiago Thomas Marquez in 2023.
At the time, Gemma wrote: “Little man is here! He arrived safe and sound and he’s utterly wonderful. Mia is already the mother hen we expected her to be. We’re all home together soaking up this lovely little bubble before Gorks has to leave for Strictly rehearsals next week. Thank you for the lovely well wishes. Our family is complete.”
Gemma has been supportive of Gorka and his time on Strictly and sometimes attends shows. While Strictly returned to our screens in September, Gorka confirmed that he will not be dancing with a celebrity on this series.
In a post on Instagram, the Spanish pro informed his followers that he will be taking on the role of a judge on the Spanish edition of Strictly for the second time.
The post on Instagram said: “I am Happy to announce that I will be back for season two of BAILANDO CON LAS ESTRELLAS as a judge from September.
“Due to the filming dates this means that I won’t be competing with a partner this year in Strictly but I will be a part of lots of the group numbers and will be back for final weeks of the show to support the rest of my fellow pros and their celebrities in what is going to be an AMAZING SERIES. As always thank you for all The love and support and remember! Keep dancing!”
