Steven Gerrard has embraced his new role as he revealed he has been on “grandad duty” this afternoon. The Liverpool FC legend became a grandad this month when his eldest daughter, Lilly Gerrard, gave birth to a baby girl named Lila Grey
Lilly welcomed her new bundle of joy into the world with long term partner, Lee Byrne. The 21-year-old announced the heartwarming news earlier this month when she shared a snap of Lee carrying the baby as the family exited the hospital.
She captioned the post: “2 becomes 3”. Lilly kept with the family tradition when she gave her new baby a name beginning with L. Announcing the name, she said: “So lucky to be your mum. My beautiful baby girl. Lila Grey. Perfection.”
Steven Gerrard and his wife, Alex, have given all their children names beginning with L. In addition to Lilly, the couple are the proud parents of Lexie, Lourdes and Lio. Lilly’s partner, Lee, also continues the trend of names beginning with L.
Gerrard was thrilled with his new family addition as he was one of the first to comment after his daughter revealed her exciting baby news earlier this year as he said: “We can’t wait. Great news and congratulations we love you.”
The 45-year-old has taken to his new role as he shared a snap cradling Lila with his Instagram followers. He captioned the post: “Grandad duty.”
Lilly has been flooded with supportive messages since she announced her special news. She has taken to Instagram to share the baby’s welcome home to her new household.
She captioned the post: “Welcome home Lila Grey. I love you so much.” Sister Lexie took to the comments and said: “She’s perfection proud of you Lil.”
Curtis Jones’ fiancee took to the comments and shared a series of heart emojis. Jamie Carragher’s wife, Nicola, said: “Congratulations Lilly, Lee and all the family so happy for you all.”
Lilly and Lee announced in January the exciting news they were expecting their first child. She shared an image of her baby scan with caption: “Our little secret. The best news, mini us is on the way.”
Lilly has been dating Lee for over two years as they went public with their romance in a series of snaps posted from their time in Ibiza, Spain. Lilly regularly shares updates from her happy life on social media.
