Steven Gerrard has sent a heartfelt message to his wife Alex as she celebrates her birthday. The former Liverpool captain often shares insights into his family life with Alex and their four children, as well as his granddaughter Lila-Grey.
To mark Alex’s birthday, Gerrard shared a message on Instagram this morning. He posted a picture of the two with their granddaughter to the social media platform as he wrote “Happy Birthday babe”, he also posted a separate post to mark the day.
A picture of Alex pouting and holding a glass of red wine while on holiday with the family was shared. The Liverpool FC legend captioned the snap “Happy birthday to my beautiful wife @alex_gerrard8 have a lovely day babe”, with a red heart emoji.
Alex responded “Thank you love you”. Gerrard and the former model share four children together, daughters Lilly, Lexie, Lourdes and son Lio. They have been happily married since saying their vows in a luxurious ceremony at Cliveden House in Berkshire on June 16, 2007.
Gerrard was 27 at the time of the wedding and praised his bride in an interview after the service with OK! Magazine. He said: “When I saw her coming down the stairs, she just looked amazing. And the girls looked really beautiful. I was dead proud of all of them.”
For the wedding Gerrard wore a a pale grey suit while Alex wore an embellished princess style dress. The couple’s daughters Lexie and Lilly Ella were bridesmaids, while best man duties went to Gerrard’s former team mate Danny Murphy.
Guests included Jamie Carragher, Peter Crouch, Rio Ferdinand, Jamie Redknapp, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, Ashley Cole and his then-wife Cheryl.
The couple have built a strong relationship, from becoming parents to moving to LA and doing long-distance when the former Liverpool captain’s work took him to Glasgow and Bahrain. However, the couple have also kept their base in Liverpool, where he spends a lot of time with Alex and the children.
Lilly Gerrard also posted a special message for her mum. A picture of Alex was shared by her daughter, she wrote: “Happy birthday to my beautiful mum and best friend, hope your day is as special as you are to us.
“Thank you for everything and being the best nanny Al to Lila, we love you so much. Don’t know what I would have done without you the past few months. Love you always.”
The family are currently on holiday together in Bahrain. Lilly shared a series of pictures from Lila’s first holiday as she captioned it “My little family.”
Away from his family life, Gerrard stepped aside from his duties as manager of Al-Ettifaq in January. Gerrard took to Instagram to reveal he had reached a mutual agreement to part company with the Saudi Pro League club after two years.
