Steven and Alex Gerrard are celebrating a special occasion together today. Today marks eighteen years since the couple tied the knot.
The Liverpool legend and former model share four children together, daughters Lilly, Lexie, Lourdes and son Lio. They have been happily married since saying their vows in a luxurious ceremony at Cliveden House in Berkshire on June 16, 2007.
Gerrard was 27 at the time of the wedding and praised his bride in an interview after the service with OK! Magazine. He said: “When I saw her coming down the stairs, she just looked amazing. And the girls looked really beautiful. I was dead proud of all of them.”
Taking to Instagram today, Gerrard shared a picture from the wedding as he wrote “Happy anniversary babe 18 years. 16.07.25”, the post included two red heart emojis.
For the wedding Gerrard wore a a pale grey suit while Alex wore an embellished princess style dress. The couple’s daughters Lexie and Lilly Ella were bridesmaids, while best man duties went to Gerrard’s former team mate Danny Murphy.
Guests included Jamie Carragher, Peter Crouch, Rio Ferdinand, Jamie Redknapp, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, Ashley Cole and his then-wife Cheryl. The £20,000 cake was said to be so big a step ladder was needed to cut it and the day ended with a spectacular fireworks display.
The couple have built a strong relationship, from becoming parents to moving to LA and doing long-distance when the former Liverpool captain’s work took him to Glasgow and Bahrain. However, the couple have also kept their base in Liverpool, where he spends a lot of time with Alex and the children.
Gerrard announced his family was complete after the birth of his son in 2017. He said: “Lio George Gerrard was born this morning at 4.55am. Both are doing great. Our family is complete.”
This year will mark another landmark as the couple are set to become grandparents. Their eldest daughter Lilly shared a pregnancy announcement to her Instagram page in January.
Sharing a picture of two baby scans, two positive pregnancy tests, a pair of baby shoes and a pregnancy journal. She captioned the post: “Our little secret, the best news, mini us is on the way @leebyrne8.”
Lilly was supported by both Steven and Alex Gerrard. The proud grandad-to-be commented: “We cant wait great news and congratulations we love you.” Mum Alex was also among the well-wishers.
She responded “Can’t wait” alongside four red love hearts. And Lilly’s siblings Lourdes and Lexie sent their own messages of support. Lexie replied “Can’t wait to be a auntie” and Lourdes added “SO EXITEDDDD”.
Lilly and her partner Lee Byrne have been dating for over two years, the two confirmed their relationship in 2022 with a series of pictures from time together in Ibiza, Spain.
Last month, the 21-year-old told followers she was “almost there” as she posted two pictures of herself to her Instagram story, both showing off her baby bump.
Away from his family life, Gerrard stepped aside from his duties as manager of Al-Ettifaq in January. Gerrard took to Instagram to reveal he had reached a mutual agreement to part company with the Saudi Pro League club after two years.
