Stacey Solomon has only just discovered a surprising detail about her husband Joe Swash’s early acting career. While guests on Scott Mills’ BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Tuesday, the presenter revealed he had been told about Joe’s role in the classic sitcom You Rang, M’Lord?, which aired from 1988 to 1993.
The programme depicted life of an aristocratic family and their servants in a London household during the 1920s. Joe, who was around seven years old at the time, played a young boy pretending to be a poor orphan.
Stacey, 35, left her BBC colleague Scott surprised as she revealed she had never heard of the series, and was unaware of Joe’s involvement. The actor proceeded to explain what the show was about, to which she quipped: “I don’t think I was even born.”
Her astonishment grew further when Scott played a snippet from the sitcom featuring Joe’s youthful voice. She exclaimed: “Oh my God, you sound like Rex! He sounds like our son Rex, that sounds like Rexy! That is the most bizarre thing I think I’ve ever heard in my life.”

Agreeing, Joe added: “That was such a long time ago.” Stacey went on to say she knew Joe had played a poor orphan, though never realised it was in the sitcom.
“That must’ve slipped my mind, sorry Stace,” he replied with a chuckle. Rex is the couple’s first child together, born in May 2019. They have since expanded their family with two daughters; Rose, three, and Belle, two.
Stacey also has two teenage sons, Zachary and Leighton, from previous relationships, while Joe has a teenage son named Harry. In their new series Stacey and Joe, the couple give fans an insight into their family life at Pickle Cottage.
Joe expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating: “Over the years, we’ve been asked a lot to do a show like this, but getting the opportunity to work with the BBC and Optomen felt properly exciting.”

Revealing what viewers can expect, he added: “There will be the normal madness of a family with lots of kids, plenty of animals and two busy parents. Here we go!”.
Stacey added: “2024 was the year me and Joe pushed ourselves out of our comfort zones. We took on different projects and tried new things. It’s been so amazing and nerve-wracking all at the same time.
“And, we just want to keep doing that in 2025, starting with Stacey & Joe! Working with the BBC and Optomen on Sort Your Life Out has been a dream come true, so this team just made sense.
“We’ve loved showing a different side to our family’s fun and chaos. We can’t wait for you to join us at Pickle Cottage this year.”
