‘She Might Never Forgive Me’: Spandau Ballet Star Admits to Hurting His Wife

Spandau Ballet’s frontman Tony Hadley has expressed his worry that his wife might never let him off the hook unless he organises her dream honeymoon.

Despite tying the knot with Alison Evers in 2009 and sharing two daughters, Zara, 16, and Genevieve, 11, Tony has yet to take his other half on the much-anticipated post-nuptial holiday.

After a decade and a half, Tony, who’s set to appear on James Martin’s Saturday Morning cook show this weekend, fears he might be in for a lifetime sentence in the dog house if he doesn’t make amends soon. “I’ve never taken my wife on a honeymoon, and she keeps reminding me of this,” he confessed to The Times in a previously published interview from 2022.

“She’s got her heart set on the Maldives, and I’m slightly concerned I’ll find it dull, although I’ve heard the diving is incredible. We definitely have to go, or she’ll never forgive me,” he admitted.

Alison, Tony’s second wife, has had to be incredibly understanding, given the demands of being married to a musician. Tony has acknowledged her patience, saying she “understands that I have to be away for work.”

He reflected: “Rock’n’roll is a selfish business because you’re always thinking about the tour, the show, promotion and writing new albums. Your head is somewhere else, but I’ve learnt to not let it be all-consuming. You want time with your family.”

Tony has praised his wife Alison in the past, telling the Sydney Morning Herald: “Alison does a wonderful job raising our daughters. I never thought I’d have kids later in life, but it has been an amazing experience.”

He also highlighted the joys of having younger children, saying: “Having daughters is rewarding because they’re always wanting a hug from dad. My older children love the young ones. It’s an incredible feeling to witness that.”

The singer, previously married to Leonie Hadley from 1983 until their divorce in 2003, acknowledged the challenges his music career posed to their relationship. “Being a touring musician was hard on Leonie. I was away on tour a lot, sometimes for months at a time,” he shared.

Tony, who resides in Oxfordshire with Alison and their two children, expressed his appreciation for the quieter life, reports the Express. Speaking on the Stars Cars Guitars podcast, he said: “Moving here is the best thing I ever did. The people are lovely, everyone is really friendly, it’s almost like going back in time. There is a real sense of community.”

He also complimented the local area, saying: “The schools are brilliant and I love visiting Aylesbury – some real thought has gone into the redevelopment there which is great to see.”

He continued: “My wife Ali was dreading it when we moved here because she thought after six months, it’d be saying we need to move back to London.

“She was waiting for that day but that day has never come and it never will. There’s a sense of freedom here which you just don’t get in London.”
