Saoirse Ronan has been cast as Linda McCartney in Sir Sam Mendes’ forthcoming four Beatles films. Several sources have confirmed to Deadline that the 31-year-old performer has joined The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event to depict Linda, Sir Paul McCartney’s first wife, with Paul Mescal set to portray the music legend.
Each film is anticipated to chronicle the journey of a different member of the legendary Liverpool band. Consequently, Saoirse is expected to appear prominently in the McCartney-focused film, though her involvement in the remaining three pictures remains unclear.
The American photographer and devoted animal welfare campaigner sadly died in 1998 at 56 after battling breast cancer.
She also performed with Paul’s post-Beatles group Wings, though her singing abilities drew some harsh reviews.
Paul Mescal recently revealed he has met with McCartney in preparation for the role, describing it as an extraordinary experience.
When asked about connecting with his fellow Paul, he told IndieWire: “I have, yeah.
“He’s an extraordinary man, like to spend any time – it’s a crazy sentence to say that I’ve spent time with that man, let alone play him.”
Quizzed on whether he will be doing his own singing in the four films, Mescal confirmed: “Yeah, yeah, absolutely yeah.”
The production will also star Barry Keoghan as Sir Ringo Starr, Harris Dickinson as the late John Lennon and Joseph Quinn as the late George Harrison.
Keoghan previously shared how he “couldn’t look at” the drummer, let alone demonstrate his musical skills, when they first met.
Speaking on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’, the Banshees of Inisherin actor revealed: “I met him at his house, and he played the drums for me.
“He asked me to play, but I wasn’t playing the drums for Ringo.
“And when I was talking to him, I couldn’t look at him. I was nervous, like right now. But he’s like, ‘You can look at me.’ “.
