Robbie Williams has enjoyed an incredible career as part of boyband Take That in the 90s, before achieving further success as a solo artist. The star has battled demons over the years and has recently shared why he avoided smiling for years.
Speaking on Australia’s The Project last week, Robbie told the host Rove McManus that he owes his youthful appearance to his new teeth. He said: “My secret is new teeth. I smile down. I smirk smile. But I smirk smile because I had yellow nubs.
“Yellowed because of amphetamines and raver’s abuse. So I didn’t open my mouth at all. And it led to this sort of smirk-y thing”, the former Take That member flashed his new white veneers.
The singer took to Instagram last year to reveal his new appearance. He wrote: “Maybe a few of you were fond of the old ones. They were f*****
“They served me well, but I absolutely abused them. Opening bottles with them. Espresso staining them. Rubbing coke on them. Not brushing them properly. Clenching them for 3 whole decades” He added: “We’ve been through a lot together. But now it’s time to move on. Goodbye my little nubby-yellow-friends.”
The 51-year-old recently opened up about his mental health with Heart, telling the radio station that he was at his lowest when recording one of his most-loved songs. When asked about what it is that comes to mind when he hears some of his songs, Robbie said: “When I wrote Feel, I was the most depressed that I’ve ever been. And I guess I was newly sober, when you’re newly sober you’re taking away your medicine.”
The dad-of-four continued: “But when you take away your medicine, you’re left with all the symptoms and you’re left with why you became ill in the first place.” He described the song as himself trying to manifest a better life – something he said he managed to achieve.
The song became an international hit, peaking at number one in the Czech Republic, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and Romania and reaching the top five in several other countries, including Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
