The Beatles’ legendary drummer and occasional songwriter Ringo Starr, has wowed fans with a stellar performance at the iconic Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. At 84 years old, Starr is currently touring his latest album, ‘Look Up’, which delves into country music for the first time since his 1970 release, ‘Beaucoups of Blues’. His appearance at The Opry took many by surprise, but it was his vibrant energy that had everyone talking. A highlight of the show was his rendition of The Beatles’ classic ‘With a Little Help From My Friends’, which was hailed as “amazing” by those who attended and viewers of an online clip.
Starr performed alongside Molly Tuttle, a collaborator on the album, delivering performances of ‘Time On My Hands’ and a cover of Johnny Russell’s ‘Act Naturally’. Social media users were stunned by a video posted with the caption: “Eighty-four-year-old Ringo Starr performing ‘With a Little Help From My Friends’ by The Beatles last night in Nashville.” Comments poured in with one user remarking: “Ringo looks younger every time I see him lol.”
Another added: “We hear a lot about Mick [Jagger], Keith [Richards], and Bruce [Springsteen], but damn, Ringo looks 50!!” A third admirer predicted: “Ringo Starr is going to live forever.”
As the praise continued, many dubbed the drummer a “legend” while marvelling at his seemingly ageless appearance during the tour of his new album, ‘Look Up’.
Fans were left in awe, pondering the secret behind his enduring youthful looks. One fan wrote: “How does he look younger than me and I’m 33.”
Another added: “It is a treat to see Ringo Starr, 60 years removed from The Beatles’ appearance on Ed Sullivan, still looking healthy and spreading joy through song.” A third commented: “I always forget how old this dude is oh my.”
The Opry, an iconic country music stage, has seen performances by legends such as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Elvis Presley. Earlier this year, Starr was invited to grace the Opry with songs from his Look Up album, confirming his participation.
Meanwhile, fellow Beatle Paul McCartney recently referred to one of his biggest hits as a “throwaway” track.
Discussing his self-titled solo debut, McCartney remarked: “They were almost throwaways, you know? But that’s why they were included. That was the whole idea of the album: all the normal things that you record that are great and have all this atmosphere but aren’t that good as recording or production jobs.
“Normally, that stuff ends up with the rest of your demos, but all that stuff is often stuff I love.”
His album includes some of his finest work, such as Maybe I’m Amazed, which featured prominently in his latest Got Back tour setlists.
