Perrie Edwards has opened up on the “worst day of her life” when she suffered a miscarriage. The 32-year-old Little Mix singer is engaged to former Liverpool FC footballer, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The couple announced their relationship in 2017 and became parents in 2021 when their son, Axel, was born. In a new interview on the Paul C Brunson podcast, We Need To Talk, Perrie explained Axel is a rainbow baby, which means he was born into a family that has previously suffered a miscarriage.
She said: “I remember finding out I was pregnant. Obviously, I started bleeding not long after, and I went to hospital and I had the scan and they were like, ‘There’s no baby.
“And I was like, ‘Oh, I’ve made this up. Maybe I got a false positive or something’. I remember being on my own at the appointments.” Just under a year after Axel was born, Perrie suffered another miscarriage.
Perrie was rehearsing for the Little Mix tour, when she discovered she was pregnant again. However, Perrie explained she suffered a miscarriage, which she described as the worst day of her life.
She said: “We went for what was a 20-week scan, but we were actually 22 weeks, and that was just the worst day of my life. Like horrendous. And I just knew something was wrong in the scan, and he [the doctor] just kept going over the same thing, over the same thing… I’ve never experienced an out-of-body experience where everything goes in slow motion.
Perrie explained that it was difficult to come to terms with her loss. She said: “It’s weird, because the first time it happened, I think because it was so early, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s hard’.
“But I think when you’re 24 weeks and you’ve planned out that room and all these things, it’s really hard. And nobody knows other than immediate friends and family.”
Perrie breaks down in tears when she recounts the difficult moment on the new podcast. The trailer for the episode has been shared on Paul’s Instagram account.
The post said: “From being born with a rare condition, to becoming part of one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, @perrieedwards’ journey is nothing short of extraordinary.
“But, behind the fame, her reality has been far from perfect. In this unfiltered conversation, Perrie opens up like never before: The tragedy of miscarriage, the joy of motherhood, and the harm caused by pregnancy speculation.
“The truth behind life on X-Factor: The part we never see on television. Toxic public relationships: My love story with One Direction’s Zayn Malik.
“Her battle to take back her life from panic disorders and agoraphobia. This isn’t just the story of a pop star; it’s the story of a woman who has faced loss, fear, and pressure in the public eye and found the strength to trust and rebuild again from within.”
