Nick Knowles Makes ‘Emotional’ Announcement About DIY SOS

Nick Knowles has issued a show update on DIY SOS

Nick Knowles has shared an update on the future of BBC show DIY SOS. Nick has been the main presenter on the show since 1999 and he will continue to present the show, as his latest announcement revealed a new series will be aired.

The first series of DIY SOS started in October 1999. The programme began with the aim of giving householders the chance to have their bodged DIY jobs finished by a team of professionals. Viewers voted each week to choose the most deserving case.

Lowri Turner and Nick presented the first DIY SOS. The banter between the builders was popular with viewers and is a main part of the programme today.

DIY SOS became more ambitious from 2010 and added Big Build to its name. The current presenters are Nick Knowles, Mark Millar, Chris Frediani, Julian Perryman and Billy Byrne.

In an Instagram post uploaded by Nick yesterday, he revealed that filming for a new series of DIY SOS was a third of the way completed. Alongside a picture of himself and the crew, he wrote: “Already we have built for some wonderful families in great communities with the help of an army of generous trades, suppliers and volunteers.

“There’s old faces (especially mine) and new and a huge rise in community spirit everywhere. Keep an eye out for us coming to your area and news on when the series will be broadcast. I can tell you now though – it’s going to be epic and emotional.”

Fans were thrilled to hear the news and many shared their happiness in the comments. One follower wrote “We were just hunting for your new season yesterday!” Another added “About time, something decent to watch on BBC.”

Other replies included “Fantastic…can’t wait!” and “That is great news can’t wait.” Fans watched Nick take on a different career path last year as he competed on Strictly Come Dancing.

In January, the BBC presenter opened up on his personal struggles following his early departure from the dance competition show after a knee injury. The DIY SOS presenter was plagued with bad luck during his stint on the show and has since needed to undergo two major operations.

The 62-year old tore his ligament while attempting a jump in a dress rehearsal with his partner Luba Mushtuk, and detailed how he was still “learning to walk” following surgery.

As well as damage to his knee, he was also forced to miss week two of Strictly Come Dancing after he tore his bicep while changing a tyre on his Range Rover.

Following his exit from the show, Nick underwent two surgeries, one to reattach his bicep, and another to build a new ACL and mend two tears.

As a result, he was unable to appear on the final episode of Strictly Come Dancing with all of the other eliminated contestants.
