Lorraine Kelly says she would never participate in Strictly Come Dancing after being compared to a ‘wardrobe’.

Lorraine Kelly has candidly admitted she wouldn’t dare to step onto the Strictly Come Dancing dance floor after an amusing, yet mortifying, revelation from one of the show’s stars comparing dancing with her to “dancing with a wardrobe”.

During Monday’s episode of Lorraine’s popular ITV chat show, the telly host chatted with Emmerdale actress Jaye Griffiths, the newest face in the soap, about various challenges outside the Dales.

Chewing over potential reality show escapades, Lorraine quipped, “If you’re going to start doing shows, SAS would you do that one?” Jaye, showing her adventurous spirit, confessed, “Yes, in a heartbeat. I love it because it’s pointless, you can’t win anything. There is nothing except to hurt yourself.”

Delving deeper, Jaye muses on the gritty determination needed for such a challenge: “It’s to see if you have a backbone. Sometimes I watch it and on day one someone will pull out and I think ‘what happened in your head to give up’, would that be me.”

However, as the conversation veered towards the ballroom blitz of Strictly, Lorraine expressed sheer trepidation at the thought: “Now that I think about it, the scariest one would be Strictly,” reports Edinburgh Live.

Asking Jaye directly: “Would you ever do Strictly?” Jaye was clearly tickled by the idea, eagerly responding: “Oh yes. I would love to learn those dances.”

Meanwhile, Lorraine was firm in her stance: “See I couldn’t not in a million years. No, no.” A puzzled Jaye probed, “Why not, what’s scary to you?”.

To which Lorraine explained: “Everything about it is scary. I would run away. You know when they say ‘and now the tango la la la’ and I would just go ‘no you’re alright’ and I’ll just run away because it’s too scary.”

Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke

Lorraine reminisced about a cringeworthy moment when Strictly judge Anton Du Beke threw shade at her dancing skills.

She shared: “I always say this but Anton Du Beke one time during a break he said ‘I can teach you how to dance’ and he said ‘stand up, stand up'”.

Recreating the scene, Lorraine said she obliged and detailed: “Then he said ‘nah, nah’ he said it was like dancing with a wardrobe.”

The studio erupted in giggles as Jaye commented: “That’s mean.” Lorraine laughed it off, chiming in: “No, no but you would be fantastic.”

Despite only appearing in one episode, Jaye's character Celia has already made several enemies.

In another segment of the show, Jaye spilled the beans on her fresh Emmerdale gig. Celia, despite just rocking up for the first episode, has managed to stir the pot.

Teasing more drama, the star hinted that Celia could really “shake things up” in the iconic village as she described: “She’s (Celia) fierce and complex shall we say.”

Jaye continued: “She just wants what she wants, and doesn’t understand why people don’t just give it to her immediately. When you don’t give her what she wants, there’s part of her that goes, ‘Oh, good, we’re going to dance then’. Because she knows ultimately she always gets what she wants, and loves the game.”
