Loose Women star confirms she’s married for the fifth time, with a surprise detail now revealed.

Janet Street-Porter has announced she got married in “secret” for the fifth time. The TV star made the announcement live on air as she surprised fellow Loose Women panellists and viewers this morning.

The 79-year-old has been in a relationship with Peter Spanton since 1999. She said: “Hi everyone, I’ve been keeping a big secret. It’s my big news for everyone. Peter and me, and Badger [dog], got married on Saturday, so there you are. I finally did it. I waited to the last for the best. See ya!”

The special announcement came as Kaye Adams teased viewers about an exciting announcement throughout the show. Kaye was then joined by Janet via video link with her new husband, and their dog Badger.

Loose Women co-stars Brenda Edwards, Kaye Adams, Sue Cleaver and Nadia Sawalha congratulated Janet after the unexpected announcement. Brenda shouted: “Congratulations Janet,” as Kaye pointed out: “Husband number five.” The couple married last Saturday in Great Yarmouth.

Peter was big on the London restaurant scene in the 80s and 90s, running and owning the Vic Naylor’s bar and restaurant in Clerkenwell up until 2005. After selling up, Peter launched his own company, Peter Spanton drinks, selling tonics and mixers.

She was previously married to Tim Street-Porter from 1967–1974 and retained his surname once she started her media career, The journalist then tied the knot with Tony Elliott, the publisher of Time Out, before they separated two years later.

In the years following, Janet married filmmaker Frank Cvitanovich from 1979–1981. In 1997, she tied the knot with David Sorkin in Las Vegas. They separated two years later in 1999.

Janet has previously spoken about her love life, telling The Guardian: “I’ve been married four times and lived with a lot of blokes – I know how men’s minds work. What have all the men I’ve been with got in common? They’re all pathetically grateful.”
