Jamie and Nicola Carragher

Jamie Carragher and wife Nicola Carragher are in London to watch their daughter Mia, perform as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games On Stage in London. Mia is playing the iconic role of Katniss in this first-ever live stage adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s internationally acclaimed book, The Hunger Games.

The Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre, which was first proposed in September 2024, is a new 1,200-seat venue, designed specifically for The Hunger Games production. A number of Mia’s previous credits include One Night in Istanbul and The Gathering, on Channel 4.

The Carragher family have been vocal in their support for Mia over the past couple of months, from the moment she received the role to now, days after the production began with audiences to watch. A selfie posted by the former Liverpool centre back and his wife in a London hotel room yesterday, was captioned: “Back to see our girl”, with a love heart emoji.

After the performance, Carragher posted a photo of the stage to his Instagram Story and attached a sticker which said “wow”, both Jamie and Nicola have praised the performance of Mia. Yesterday, Nicola shared an update of her own.

The latest update from Nicola came after watching Mia’s first performance as Katniss Everdeen on stage and son James returning to football action for Wigan.

Nicola captioned the post: “Yesterday was a good day, watching my girl who is an absolute superstar in the evening, like I have no words. Knowing my boy came on in the day after two months out recovering from injury and operation. You both will always be the greatest thing I have ever done in my life, my heart can’t deal.”

Liverpool FC legend Carragher admitted before Mia’s stage debut last week, he was “a little bit nervous” ahead of the huge new show. Carragher spoke to the ECHO about how he’s feeling as his daughter takes on the role of Katniss Everdeen in the highly anticipated show.

He said: “I’m a little bit nervous because, you know, it’s your daughter, it’s your baby. But I am so excited for her, she’s put so much work in. They’ve been rehearsing for two or three months now and she’s been down in London on her own.

“We’ve been getting down to see her when we can. It’s been full on, they’re not leaving the theatre until 10 o’clock just to make sure it’s right.

“That’s the name of the game, isn’t it? That’s the game that she is in. As I’ve said, she’s put the work in, now go and enjoy it – be Katniss.”

Before the live shows got underway, a photo of Mia’s script was shared with a message from Suzanne Collins attached. A personal message to Mia, said: “For Mia, may the odds be ever in your favour.

“Thank you for your amazing work bringing Katniss to life on the stage. Love Suzanne Collins.” Ahead of the first run of the show in front of an audience, Mia posted pictures from behind-the-scenes today and wrote “The best company and friends, let’s do this.”

After receiving the incredible role, Mia said: “I am so excited and honoured to be playing Katniss. This is a dream come true role and I cannot wait to see the production come to life. From being a huge fan of the films, I feel so lucky to be a part of the Hunger Games world, especially working with Matthew Dunster and an incredible creative team.”
