Liam Payne’s girlfriend has shared a heartfelt tribute as she marked one year since the former One Direction star’s tragic death. The 31-year-old singer died on October 16 last year after sustaining serious injuries from a fall off a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A preliminary post-mortem report indicated that Liam died from “multiple traumas,” including internal and external bleeding caused by the 40-foot fall. Kate Cassidy, a 26-year-old American influencer who had been in a relationship with Liam, had returned to the United States two days before his death.
Known for regularly sharing glimpses of their relationship with her 995,000 Instagram followers, Cassidy posted a poignant black-and-white photograph of the couple lying in bed, with Liam kissing her cheek.
Alongside the photo, she wrote: “Today marks a full year without you here. I will forever hate goodbyes. I miss you Liam.”
Tributes also poured in from fans and friends, including Anne Twist, mum of fellow One Direction member Harry Styles.
Anne shared a touching message by reposting a tribute from the All On The Board Instagram account, which read: “May heaven be a paradise for you where you’re safe and nothing can hurt you, may you feel the love from Earth in your new home there.”
The message was signed from “your family, your friends, your One Direction brothers and the Directioners, and so much love to your son Bear.”
Long-time fans took to social media platform X to honour Liam’s memory. Many wrote about their grief and how his music continues to resonate. One user wrote: “Gone too soon, his voice and energy left a mark that’ll never fade. Rest easy Liam, your music still speaks loud.”
Another said: “I will always love and miss you, thank you for everything, RIP angel.”
A third added: “Forever in our hearts, his music will always be with me.”
Another user said: “A year has passed, and though time moves on, the grief feels just as overwhelming. I miss Liam every single day. We’re losing too many young people to drugs and mental health issues. Liam was a legend for as long as he was with us.”
