Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy has honoured him with a poignant tattoo. The 25 year old revealed the tribute two months after the One Direction star’s tragic passing.
Liam was just 31 when he died in October after accidentally falling from an Argentinian hotel balcony. His death was attributed to “polytrauma and internal and external bleeding.” A toxicology report indicated the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants in his system; however, authorities confirmed that his death was accidental. Last month, Liam’s loved ones, including family, friends, and former One Direction bandmates, gathered to say their final goodbyes at his funeral. Kate, who had been dating Liam since 2022, has often hinted at angels when speaking of Liam, referencing the “angel number” 444 and once commenting that she had “gained a guardian angel.”
In tribute to Liam, Kate has shown the world her new ink – angel wings tattooed as a visible token of love and remembrance. She let fans peek at the tattoo in an Instagram Story post on Sunday (22 December), where she was pictured snuggling with the couple’s dog Nala, whom they adopted just a month before Liam’s untimely death, reports the Mirror.
In the photo, her hand gently rests in the shot and is adorned with two tattoos believed to symbolise angel wings. Accompanying the heartfelt image, Kate chose a simple yet powerful red heart emoji as the caption.
In a touching tribute to her late partner just days following his passing, Kate expressed her profound grief and gratitude for the outpouring of support. She said: “Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way. I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private. Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
She also shared with her followers that Liam had intentions of proposing within the next year as they had planned their future. In another emotional post she wrote: “Your energy was contagious, lighting up every room you walked into. […] You had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit. It feels like I’ve lost the best part of myself. I can’t imagine a day without your laughter and love. You brought so much light into my life.”
Kate added: “A few weeks ago, we sat outside on a beautiful evening manifesting our lives together. I keep your note close, even though you told me not to look at it. It said ‘Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged and together forever 444.’ Liam, I know we’ll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned. You’ll always be with me. I’ve gained a guardian angel.”
