Americans across the nation are marking Independence Day, but for actress Julia Roberts the Fourth of July marks a more personal celebration.
The 56-year-old Oscar-winner is celebrating her 22nd wedding anniversary to husband Daniel Moder.
Taking to Instagram, Ms. Roberts posted a throwback photo of the couple with the caption “TWENTY TWO YEARS,” followed by a fitting American flag emoji and a string of hearts.
The couple met while filming “The Mexican (2001)” starring Ms. Roberts and Brad Pitt. Mr. Moder was working as a cameraman on the project.
The two later wed in 2002 in a private ceremony that left guests surprised as they were merely invited to an “Independence Day celebration.”
Back in December, Ms. Roberts boasted about her husband, calling him the “anchor” of their family.
“It all starts with Danny Moder, he is our person and, in the most beautiful way, the captain of our ship,” she said. “For me, understanding how deeply felt life could be, really started with him.”
Aside from their personal relationship, the two have worked together on a number of projects, such as the movie “Secrets In Her Eyes (2015).” Ms. Roberts said she admires her husband’s professionalism and his opinion holds deep meaning.
“It was so great. He’s my favorite person on the planet, so I love spending time with him and I love his work ethic,” she told People at the time. “His point of view is really valuable to me.”
“Also, when you feel like you have to do scenes where you’re sort of really exposing yourself in a way that I wouldn’t do sitting here with you guys comfortably, but if he was sitting right behind me and I felt some sense of that security, it just makes you want to do more, really,” she continued.
The couple have three children, twins Hazel and Phinneas, 19, and son Henry, 17 and Ms. Roberts admits the family dynamic can get hectic due to their work schedule. She says her husband makes their routine go smoothly, though, especially when she’s away filming.
“Danny is very much a part of [our kids’ routine] so there’s only one little element gone–I like to think I’m an important element,” she said.
The “Pretty Woman” actress credits the love she feels from her husband and family with creating greater happiness within herself.
“I think part of it is just the happy space that I’m lucky enough to occupy in the world, with my family and my friends,” said Ms. Roberts.
Fashion designer Victoria Beckham and her soccer star husband David Beckham are another famous couple who tied the knot on this day over two decades ago.
Ms. Beckham shared a heartfelt series of photos to social media from their wedding celebration prep and even recreating a photo in their original reception outfits.
“Looking back on the days leading up to our wedding 25 years ago brings back so many amazing memories. … I love you so much,” wrote the former Spice Girl.
Together, they have four children, and originally met at a football match while Mr. Beckham was playing for Manchester United. They got engaged in 1998 and married a year later in Ireland.
