Jamie Redknapp said his eldest son’s “world was turned upside down” when he revealed he was having his first child with new wife, Frida Andersson. The former Liverpool FC captain was married to Louise Redknapp for 19 years until 2017 and the couple share two children named Charley and Beau.
After they separated, Sky Sports pundit remarried Frida and they welcomed their first child named Raphael soon afterwards. Redknapp has spoken about his family life on the latest episode of the Romesh Ranganathan Show and said it was initially difficult to share the news that his older children would have a younger brother.
According to Mirror Online, he said: “It didn’t go down that well with Charley, I’ve got to be honest. I went to pick him up at school and tell him Frida was pregnant [and] it went down like a lead balloon, if I’m honest.”
Redknapp insisted he understood the response, as he added: “I got it, I totally understood it because his world had been turned upside down — you’re married, everything feels straightforward, and then you meet someone else and you get married again.”
However, the sons have since adjusted to the family dynamic and embraced being big brothers to Raphael, who turns four next month.
Redknapp paid tribute to his son on his 21st birthday in July, as he said: “You’re also the best big brother — the way you are with Rapha and Beau melts my heart.
“Such a great role model, they’re so lucky to have you. Now that you’re 21, I’m hoping you’ll finally start beating me at golf…but I won’t make it easy! Can’t wait for a few days on the course together.”
Eternal singer Louise also celebrated her eldest by posting a photo montage from his 21 years. She “Chaz, I’m so proud of the charming young man you’ve become. You’ve been my partner in crime since day one, and nothing makes me happier than seeing you live your best life.
“You have an incredible future ahead – keep working hard and smashing it.” Followers have previously taken to the comments on Louise’s posts to share their disbelief at how much Charley looks like his mum.
One user said: “Good gracious what a gorgeous young man he’s turning into. Looks just like his mum!” Another added: “He looks so much like his mamma, it’s actually kind of crazy.”
Louise has been dating businessman Drew Michael since 2023. She regularly shares updates from their happy relationship on social media, such as when they attended Glastonbury Festival last year.
Louise has discussed her thriving romance with Drew in an appearance on the Lisa Snowdon and Andy Goldstein’s podcast, We’re Not Getting Any Younger. She said: “I’ve got a boyfriend whose great and lovely. I’m just having a really nice time.”
Louise laughed the two get regularly photographed together by paparazzi since Drew lives in a busy part of Central London. She added: “He lives in Soho so we go to the bagel shop and [getting photographed] is a thing.
“Gone are the days of the side ponytail and the dirty tracksuit to run up and get a tuna bagel. I just made a decision that I don’t want to hide anything. I just go about my business and if I get snapped, I get snapped.”
Louise revealed Drew is nine years younger than her, but said this hasn’t led to any issues in their relationship. When Lisa revealed her partner is seven years younger than her, Louise asked: “Is that alright? Talk to me about it.”
Lisa revealed the age gap with her partner is no issue at all, adding: “It doesn’t feel that big of a gap, now we’re at the age we’re at. Especially because [Drew] must be mature and must be good conversation, stable and kind.”
Louise agreed and revealed it is also special to her how Drew has formed a close bond with her two children, Beau and Charley. She added: “He’s great with my boys. He’s a great friend with them. The tone is just right. He’s just a really great guy, I feel very lucky to have met him.”
