James Nelson-Joyce starring in the new adidas advert celebrating the launch of Liverpool FC's third kit

James Nelson-Joyce has thrilled fans with his starring role in an adidas advert celebrating the release of the new Liverpool FC third kit. The 36-year-old This City Is Ours star fronts a new campaign for the green shirt featuring the iconic Trefoil label.

The shirt is the final one to be released for the 25/26 season which saw the Reds return to its partnership with adidas. The club has signed a 10 year partnership with the three stripes brand after five years with Nike. A new advert has been released today as the new shirt was unveiled.

Boyhood Liverpudlian James is speaking on the phone as he walks around some of Liverpool’s cultural cornerstones. The Scouse actor is advocating why the city is so special in his chat with the mystery caller.

The Walton native said: “When did you land? I’d heard you might want showing around. I’ll come and get you now. What’s it like in Liverpool? It’s a good time to come here.

“Not gonna lie. There’s a buzz at the minute. Fashion, art, music. And the football, obviously. There’s a lot of talent here. And when the locals like you, they tend to really like you. I’ve heard you’ve got a bit of an original style as well.

“You’ll fit in here. We’re all new here once. Just don’t get too big for your boots. Not that anyone would let you, like.” In the advert, it is revealed James was speaking to new signing Hugo Ekitike, who joined the Reds from Eintracht Frankfurt and has got off to a flying start on Merseyside with three goals already to his name.

The 23-year-old tries out some slang at the end of the advert when he tells James he’s ready for the tour. He said: “You know tha.” A final segment of the advert sees James receive a call from the Reds’ final signing of the summer, as he said: “Hello mate, I’ve been waiting on this call.”

Alexander Isak, who signed for a British transfer record £125m, is on the other line at his official press unveiling, as the Swedish striker said: “I hear you’re showing people around?” James responded: “Okay let’s go.”

The advert features cameo appearances from people associated with the club, such as Andy Robertson and Steve McManaman, along with many recognisable faces that are emblematic of Scouse culture.

Many people took to the comments to praise the kit and the new advert. DJ Lauren Lo Sung, who appears in the advert behind the decks in the Roscoe Street Grapes, said: “Heavy.”

Fans also praised the advert as Craig said: “Liverpool & adidas go together like strawberries & cream” Paul added: “Trefoil and the reds. A match made in heaven.”

Steve said: “Belter.” Craig posted: “Absolutely amazing video.”
