Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls were forced to cut an interview with tech guru Elon Musk’s father Errol Musk short after he made controversial comments
Susanna Reid had to abruptly end an interview on Good Morning Britain today (January 8) when the discussion veered off course. Co-hosting with Ed Balls, she welcomed Errol Musk, Elon Musk’s father, onto the show. The pair were inquiring about his communication with his son regarding Elon’s fallout with Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, but the conversation quickly shifted as Errol, joining via video link from Cape Town, began comparing Tommy Robinson to Nelson Mandela and sharing his views on a Canadian referendum.
As the topic strayed, Susanna intervened, declaring: “Right, Errol, thank you very much indeed but I feel that we’re drifting slightly from the core issues for our audience.” She appeared uncomfortable, shuffling papers and wearing a tense expression as Errol vanished from the screen. Addressing the viewers, she added: “I think we slightly drifted away from how democracy works and the legal system in this country as well.” Ed chimed in with: “I love the idea of somebody being relatively innocent”, reports the Express.
However, Susanna simply sighed and rolled her eyes before moving on. Viewers were left confused by the decision to feature Errol Musk on the ITV programme. Taking to social media platforms like X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer expressed their confusion: “Ffs #GMB – why the hell are they interviewing Elon Musk’s father?”
Many other viewers expressed their outrage, questioning why the show gave Errol Musk a platform. “Why are they allowing him to wade into the child abuse scandal, giving him a platform to claim that Nelson Mandela was worse than Tommy Robinson?” one viewer asked.
Another commented: “#GMB what are we watching and listening too here?” while another echoed: “Why are you giving him air time?” A fourth viewer said: “Don’t think this was a good idea GMB, quick cut to the break.”
Others expressed their disgust, with one person saying: “You had him comparing Tommy Robinson to Mandela but better because Mandela was a terrorist. Seriously what the hell were you thinking having him on! !” Another viewer simply posted: “Stop giving f**king idiots like Errol Musk airtime #GMB.”
This comes after Susanna surprised fans with a stunning hair transformation after her holiday break, taking inspiration from a 2024 TV chat with pop icon Cher. However, not all of her followers were thrilled with the change, with some urging her to “Ignore Cher!”. The presenter revealed her new look on social media, writing: “NEW YEAR NEW HAIR!”.
While she received mixed reviews, some compliments also came flooding in, with one fan saying, “You always look lovely – I really like it shorter though – tres chic!” Another fan chimed in with, “Bob all the way! ” while one follower suggested that the shorter style made her look younger. One user commented, “Preferred it shorter but you always look gorge regardless xx”.
