The love story of TV presenters Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty has been a source of fascination for many, as they occasionally share snippets of their high-profile lives.

Their journey began when they first met while co-hosting the BBC talent show Fame Academy in 2002. Their relationship evolved from professional to personal, filled with whirlwind romance, a private wedding, and the joys and trials of parenting two children.

However, recent times have seen the couple face some hurdles in their relationship, causing fans to speculate. We’ve delved into the key moments that have defined their relationship and the significant choices they’ve had to make over the years, reports Belfast Live.

Cat and Patrick’s paths crossed in 2002 when they were both presenting the BBC talent show Fame Academy. Their working relationship soon turned personal, and they grew closer over the years. Despite initially keeping their romance under wraps, Patrick confirmed their relationship in 2012.

After dating for several years, the couple secretly tied the knot in September 2012. The wedding was held in Rome, at St Isidore’s Church, a small Irish church near the Vatican, attended by their nearest and dearest.

A Belfast-based priest and friend of Patrick’s officiated the intimate ceremony. The couple later welcomed their two sons Milo, now eight, and James, five.

Cat and her husband, Patrick, have been juggling a hectic career schedule along with their family life. Patrick, known for hosting The Late Late Show in Ireland, often has to zip around for work.

Meanwhile, Cat’s not been idle either; she’s taken up new duties as co-presenter of ITV’s This Morning this year, teaming up with Ben Shephard. A source confided to OK!: “They are a really strong couple and have been through a lot together. They’ve navigated their busy careers and the challenges of raising children with grace. They’re determined to make the relationship work.”

Gun scare

Cat and Patrick got married in 2012

Back in 2020, while residing in Los Angeles, the couple had a heart-stopping moment involving their son Milo in a gun scare incident. The details of what exactly took place are still under wraps, but the impact it had is palpable.

It all went down when Patrick and Milo were casually visiting a shopping mall in LA and an armed event happened close by. Naturally, this shook the whole family to the core, prompting Cat and Patrick to reconsider where they were living and how safe it was for their kids.

Having already settled in Los Angeles for quite some time, the couple decided that it just wasn’t the sanctuary they needed for bringing up their two little ones anymore. Cat has opened up in interviews since the frightful episode, explaining how it served as a stark reminder to reassess their surroundings.

Speaking to OK!, she shared her heartfelt feelings: “After the gun scare, it was clear that things had to change. We couldn’t continue living in fear, and we wanted our children to grow up in an environment that felt safer. It was a tough decision, but ultimately it felt right for us as a family.”

In family news, fans missed spotting This Morning’s Cat at the funeral of her mother-in-law, Mary Kielty, this past March 2025 in Dundrum, Northern Ireland.

While Mary’s son, Patrick Kielty, took on hosting duties for The Late Late Show, Cat stayed back in London to juggle her young sons’ school routine – Milo, aged eight, and five year old James – and her presenting role beside Ben Shephard.

Mary Kielty, who passed away at 84, also lost her husband, Jack Kietly, in 1988.

When it comes to matters of the heart, Cat has been open about not planning to renew vows with hubby Patrick, remaining consistent with her hands-off approach, even recollecting their 2012 wedding: “I barely even did my own wedding. Patrick went and tried the food and did all that. I never even saw the place where I got married before I got married – that’s how uninvolved I was.”

She also expressed her nonchalance towards renewing vows, sharing: “I don’t care, as long as everybody was there and had a good time – it doesn’t bother me.”
