Gogglebox star Dave Griffiths has been flooded with supported as he announced his retirement from his day job. The armchair critic is renowned for his role on the popular Channel 4 programme.
He regularly invites viewers to commentate on the week’s best TV, alongside his wife Shirley Griffiths. The couple joined the show in 2015 and have been fan favourites ever since.
They appeared on the latest episode of the programme as they cast their eye on shows such as Tempting Fortune and Bradley Walsh: Egypt’s Cosmic Code. The couple have also built up a large following on Instagram where they share regular updates from their lives away from the screen.
Dave has taken to the social media platform over the weekend to confirm he had retired from his day job. Away from his role as an armchair critic, Dave worked as a cleaner in a factory.
However, he has now confirmed he is set to enjoy a well earned rest as he confirmed he has retired. He shared a snap of a large gathering of a group of people with the caption: “Thanks to everyone for showing up for my retirement farewell love to all.”
Fellow Gogglebox star Sid Siddiqui took to the comments and said: “Happy, healthy and longggg retirement Dave.” The Malones added: “Happy retirement Dave !!!”
Fans also congratulated Dave after the update. Sara commented: “Happy retirement enjoy making new memories xx” Charlotte posted: “Oh my god I panicked I thought you were leaving Gogglebox.
“Absolutely love you and Shirley your my faves. Happy Retirement Dave all the best.” However, Dave’s stint on Gogglebox looks set to continue as a publicist on the show said: “Happy retirement Dave. We’ll keep you busy.”
It’s been a busy week for the married TV couple as Shirley celebrated her 70th birthday last week. Dave shared a snap of the two together on their Instagram profile.
Jenny Newby and Lee Riley took to the comments to congratulate Shirley. They said: “Happy 70th Shirley have a fabulous day lots of love Jenny and Lee.”
The Siddiquis added: “Happy Birthday. Have a great day celebrating x” Fans also congratulated Shirley as Patricia said:”Happy birthday Shirley enjoy your celebrations. My favourite couple on Gogglebox.”
