Gardeners’ World Alan Titchmarsh has expressed his anxiety as he comes to terms with getting older. Speaking to Best magazine, the TV presenter provided a glimpse into his personal life away from the lush landscapes he’s known for.
He opened up about how age has begun to impact one of his most cherished hobbies. Alan said: “Being older now we can be away quite a bit, which makes dog owning more difficult.”
He acknowledged that while his capability to keep a pet dog has been constrained by age, he delights in looking after his “grand-dogs”, those owned by his grandchildren.
Alan, who is 75-years-old, also spoke about social media. A fan of posting garden visuals and botanical knowledge on Instagram, he admits to worrying about wider social media influences: “I do worry about social media and its impact, though.”
Alan also discussed how social media platforms shape our lives: “It can encourage introspection and become something of an obsession. I contribute to it but hopefully in a more wholesome way”, reports Devon Live.
Alan, a renowned figure in the gardening world, is perhaps best known for his time as the host of BBC’s Gardeners’ World from 1996 to 2002. He was succeeded by Monty Don, who continues to present the show.
Earlier this year, Alan’s significant contributions to gardening and charity work were recognised when he was awarded a CBE. But Alan’s broadcasting career didn’t stop after leaving Gardeners’ World. He now presents Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh every Sunday morning on ITV, where he explores “all that is great about the British countryside, including arts, crafts, manufacturing and produce.”
Each episode features a range of celebrity guests, with past appearances from stars such as Ben Fogle, Matt Baker, Joanna Page and Alan Davies.
