the happy egg co. is committed to providing exceptional standards of care, freedom and fun for their girls
How do you like your eggs in the morning?
If your perfect eggs are utterly scrumptious and sourced from a farm where hens are free to roam, explore and play – then they must be from the happy egg co.
Actor and farmer Kelvin Fletcher recently visited a happy egg co. farm, where he was lucky enough to meet the girls, get to know their curious and playful personalities and admire their vast patch to explore, play and forage.
Kelvin said: “It’s pretty impressive! Look at this, look at how much space they’ve got. This is what you call happy hens.
“The girls need plenty of room to roam, explore and well, just be chickens! Essentially, the more space they have, the more active and content they’ll be – especially if there are lots of interesting textures like grass, sand and dirt patches for them to investigate because they are super curious creatures after all.
“You can also see that they have shrubs, play kits, bushes and trees dotted around for the girls to forage and explore, and even play hide and seek. All these little nooks and crannies, and the cover, helps the girls feel safe and secure. The happy egg co. provides four times the tree cover required by the RSPCA Assured Free Range standards.”
At the happy egg co., the happiness of their hens always comes first. Many of their farms are family-run, and it’s not uncommon for the whole family to get involved in the day-to-day care of their hens. Farmers check on their girls several times every day, and play a huge part in ensuring the next generation of farmers learns from some of the most passionate in the industry, ensuring they, too, prioritise the health, well-being and happiness of their own hens.
Some farmers have even been spotted taking their hens for walks during the day, encouraging their natural sense of adventure and appealing to their instinctive desire to explore their expansive ranges, vast tree coverage and bespoke play kits. Farmers are required to pass regular audits, acing the checklists the happy egg co. have in place to ensure they are only working with the highest quality farmers the country has to offer.
The happy egg co. prides itself on its significantly greater tree coverage than is required by the industry standard. Farmers plant thousands of trees and bushes to balance light and protection, creating a calm, natural environment. Their girls feel safe and secure whilst exploring their tree-covered areas on the farm, jumping up into the trees to watch the world go by, taking great delight in their wooden play kits and toys, from watering cans to climbing frames.
They have also developed a bespoke, naturally enhanced diet which helps their girls lay eggs that are extra nutritious and utterly delicious, firmly believing that happy hens lay tasty eggs. This bespoke diet also supports the health and welfare of their hens, and the happy egg co. takes great pleasure in knowing they are continuously working closely with some of the most passionate UK farming families who know how important it is to care for their girls and raise the bar for welfare standards.
