One heartbreaking Coronation Street storyline was put “on hold” by bosses after a change of focus it’s been revealed.
But the emotional storyline in question will now be revisited, after fans questioned two characters not interacting. Last year Kit Green, played by actor Jacob Roberts, debuted as the secret son of Bernie Winter.
His true identity was exposed, and some of their backstory was explored. We learned all about Bernie’s decision to have Kit adopted as a child with her other children never knowing about him, until he headed to Weathefield.
Around the death of his brother Paul Foreman late last year we started to see the mother and son attempt to get through their issues, while this suddenly stopped. Since then, Kit hasn’t been in many if any scenes with his onscreen mother Bernie, and instead his focus has been plenty of detective drama and crime.
Kit is now set to feature in big new scenes with villain Mick Michaelis and his wife Lou, with their past set to be explored in special flashback scenes. With that, actor Jacob told The Mirror that the scenes and the sad plot with Bernie would finally be revisted.
He confirmed the initial storyline had been put “on hold” to make way for Kit’s character to be developed in terms of his life as a police detective. With that not done and big scenes ahead, we will finally see mother and son interacting again.

Jacob told us: “The Bernie stuff was put on hold to do all the police stuff. We’re coming back into the Bernie stuff so we find out a lot more about that as well.
“I think Bernie’s probably the best person to speak to in this because he’s got no-one else to speak to and that’s what you will see. It’s little subtle hints that he needs Bernie there while he’s talking to Brody. He’ll need Bernie on his side because he’s questioning if he’s doing the right thing, if he’s feeling the right emotions.
“But I do think Bernie might get a bit too involved in it as well.” On what’s ahead for the mother and son, he adds: “I think he feels that she’s too much in his life and trying to play the mummy role a bit too soon, whether there’s still a bit of tension and resentment still there.”
Kit actor Jacob spilled all on his ongoing drama on the soap, as we finally find out Kit’s backstory after months of knowing very little about his past. Perhaps we’ll see him on the other side of the law too, as Kit tells us of a ‘sliding doors’ moment: “It shows he wasn’t so innocent back in the day, I don’t know if that leaves you.

“It’s a funny one because it’s obviously a different life that he led back then and he’s changed it around and obviously Mick hasn’t, so it was good to find out what happened.” Jacob said the whole experience was “strange” seeing a younger actor take on the role of Kit as a teenager, and getting to witness some key events not yet explained to viewers.
He revealed: “It was kind of strange looking at a younger version of yourself. It was nice to see, I think I got told by Kate [Brooks] beforehand of what actually went on with Mick and Kit so I knew a bit about the story. Mick has only just come into it really, as soon as you start working with someone, you can add onto the story and broaden it a bit and make it more believable to yourself.”
It’s Wednesday’s episode that we first see hints of a shared, secret past between Kit and Mick ahead of a flashback twist revealing all. Whatever went on between them back then paves the way for a blackmail plot as Mick targets Kit. “I wouldn’t say he’s scared,” teased Jacob. “He knows he’s gonna blackmail him but Kit’s done that to many characters before.
