Emmerdale’s Paula Lane might be swapping the Dales for another soap opera following her departure from the show.
Paula joined the cast in 2024, stepping into the shoes of Ella Forster, a character with a mysterious past and plenty of hidden secrets. As it transpired, Ella had a dark history. At just 11 years old, she was responsible for the death of her best friend and served time in prison for the crime.
After her release, Ella, formerly known as Ruth, spent her life moving around the country. Ella made her entrance to the Dales in January 2024 and managed to find some stability, forming a bond with Mandy Dingle (played by Lisa Riley) and sparking a romance with GP Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), which has since fizzled out, reports Leicestershire Live.
However, last year, reports surfaced that Paula had bid farewell to Emmerdale after a mere 16 months. Recently, the soap began setting the stage for Ella’s exit.
Just last week, Ella found herself accused of drugging Liam’s fiancée Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter). Despite her vehement denials, no one believed her innocence, leading to her departure from the Dales.
This week saw Ella return to the village, and drama ensued when she nearly caused Liam’s death during a confrontation in the woods. Luckily, Liam survived the ordeal and urged Ella to seek professional help. Ella was subsequently arrested again, seemingly cementing her exit from Emmerdale.
It looks like actress Paula Lane might be swapping the cobbles for another soap opera stint. Paula became a household name in 2010 as Kylie Platt on Coronation Street, until her character met a dramatic end in 2016.
Bookmakers are now placing bets on her next big role. Betway has exclusively given odds of 5/1 for Paula to join the cast of BBC’s EastEnders.
She’s also been given odds of 6/1 for landing a part in a different TV drama, and 8/1 for braving the jungle in I’m A Celeb later this year.
Betway’s spokesperson Mike Reading commented: “Paula Lane has been a household favourite in British soaps for over 15 years now, recently departing Emmerdale as Ella Forster, but is perhaps best known for her role as Kylie Platt in Coronation Street.
“Our traders think her next move could be a sensational move to Eastenders and make her a 5/1 shot to become a regular in Albert Square!”.
“Outside of a return to a soap, she’s priced up at 6/1 to land a role in another major TV drama and is 8/1 to swap scripts for survival in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! later this year.
“And there’s more – she’s at 10/1 to step into the Celebrity Big Brother house next week, potentially reuniting with her former on-screen hubby, Jack P. Shepherd, who’s rumoured to be joining the show.”
