Emmerdale fans were left utterly stunned after discovering that Jonny McPherson, who plays the lovable Dr Liam Cavanagh, had previously portrayed a different character on the show.
Jonny joined the Emmerdale family in 2014 as the charming village GP, Liam. Since then, he’s won over fans and been at the heart of numerous major plotlines.
From his various romantic entanglements to the devastating loss of his daughter Leanna (played by Mimi Slinger), Liam’s journey in the Dales has been anything but dull.
Particularly in February, when a nail-biting limousine accident storyline had viewers fearing for Liam’s life – thankfully, he survived.

Liam has also rekindled his romance with Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) following his split from Ella Forster (Paula Lane), reports Leicestershire Live.
However, the road to love hasn’t been smooth for Liam and Chas, and amid the turmoil involving Ella, the pair decided to postpone their wedding this month.
Interestingly, it turns out that Liam wasn’t Jonny’s first role on Emmerdale, as he’d made several appearances on the ITV soap before.

Back in 2008, he briefly appeared in the Dales as another doctor, Jonathan Boam – who assisted Donna Windsor (Verity Rushworth) following a car crash. This marked Jonny’s debut on television.
Two years later, he popped up again, this time as a nurse on duty on the night Jackson Walsh (Marc Silcock) was struck by a train.
Emmerdale followers were left absolutely gobsmacked when they unearthed snaps of Jonny McPherson’s former appearances in the loved soap.

Over on an Emmerdale fan page on Facebook, fans shared their amazement alongside a shot from Jonny’s earlier gig, with one fan writing: “Jonny McPherson on Emmerdale in 2010.”
Another chimed in with a bit of disbelief: “Well I didn’t know that.” And then came another equally stunned comment: “Same here there are so many actors in it now that played different people.”
