Amy Walsh has announced she is expecting her second child with partner and former EastEnders actor Toby-Alexander Smith. The Emmerdale star revealed the exciting news on Instagram late last night, September 9.
The actress, who is known for playing Amy Metcalfe in the fictional village, shared a black and white video to the song ‘Northern Sky’, by Nick Drake. In the video Amy tells her daughter that she can expect another sibling as she has “got a baby” in her tummy.
In the video Amy can be heard saying: “Mummy and daddy have got a special secret to tell you. Mummy has got a baby in her tummy. A baby sister or brother for you.” Amy, Toby, and daughter Bonnie’s hands then move to show a scan of the baby.
The post was captioned: “Smith/Walsh baby 2.0 incoming 2026.” It will be the second time Amy welcomes a baby into the world, Amy and Toby, who played Gray Atkins on EastEnders, welcomed Bonnie-Mae in December 2021.
Describing the experience of her first birth, Amy told OK! magazine: “I had to have an epidural as the pain was so strong. The epidural eventually kicked in a bit and then I was on gas and air, and I was laughing… We’ve got a video of me going, ‘Just make me a cocktail!’ I felt drunk – I loved it!”
Family and friends reacted to the pregnancy announcement with messages of congratulations for the soap stars. Amy’s sister and former Girls Aloud member Kimberley Walsh responded with five crying face emojis,
Isabel Hodgins, who plays Victoria Sugden on Emmerdale commented: “Gorgeous!!!!! So happy for you” and Vanessa Woodfield actress Michelle Hardwick wrote “so exciting”, the post was also liked by 20,000 people.
Belle Dingle star Eden Taylor-Draper responded with crying emojis and “amazing news” as her reply. Others in the comments included Mandy Dingle actress Lisa Riley, she posted “Ahhhhhhh this is just wonderful news!!! Over the moon for all of you….fantastic.”
a number of fans also offered their congratulations. One fan commented: “Wow congratulations Toby + Amy” and a second said “Fabulous news congratulations to you both and Bonnie of course.”
Further responses included “Congratulations you guys, baby will be so loved” and “This is amazing news, congrats to all three of you.”
Amy and Toby officially tied the knot in a star-studded wedding abroad in 2023. The ceremony was held in Montenegro in front of co-stars, family and friends.
Following the ceremony, the bride told OK! magazine: “It was honestly the most perfect day. It surpassed all my expectations and more. I felt so surprisingly present on the day and loved every second. Now I’m just in pure bliss.”
The couple first met when they both attended the same Strictly Come Dancing Live show in 2018. They began dating and moved in with each other before lockdown.
