Corrie star issues ‘goodbye’ message as fans ‘sob their heart out’
Coronation Street’s Cait Fitton has issued a heartfelt tribute after Paddy Bever’s exit. The two built up a strong bond during their respective roles as Lauren Bolton and Max Turner on the Cobbles
Paddy exited the show in emotional scenes last night when Max was sentenced to six and a half years in prison. Max and Lauren regularly shares the screen together and Cait has sent an emotional goodbye message to her departed co-star.
She shared a compilation video made by a fan, alongside the caption: “Team Lax. What a journey it’s been ….. Coming into this , I never thought I’d be lucky enough to be paired with someone so hard working and so dedicated.
“@paddybever you amaze me. Thank you for the lifelong lessons you have taught me , for being my rock and my partner in crime throughout my journey so far and for being the most caring , talented and gorgeous soul you are.
“I find myself unable to put our journey together into words so instead I post this amazing edit. Look at the journey we have had and the memories we have made.
“For now it’s goodbye to Max on the cobbles , but I wish you so much love and luck for your future and I’m so excited for the opportunities that are to come your way! I love you Beves.”
Fans took to the comments to praise Cait and Paddy after the update. Sasha said: “Sobbing my heart out right now I love you both so much.”
Katie commented: “my heart. Going to honestly missing seeing you two on my screen together.” Han posted: “I will miss you two together. You both had an great chemistry together and it was nice to see the story”
The official Coronation Street account responded: “We’re not crying, you are.” Paddy also responded as he said: “Oh Cait.” Paddy shared a statement with our sister site, Mirror Online, to confirm his exit at the start of the year.
He said: “After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way.”
“It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show,” he remarked. “This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.”
Paddy’s exit comes amid a number of faces leaving the show over the next 12 months, including Sue Cleaver, Colson Smith and Charlotte Jordan. Julia Goulding told the EHCO and other press how she was devastated by Paddy and Charlotte’s exit.
She said: “Devastated. I love Paddy so much and I could actually be his mother, it’s ridiculous. He’s got a very bright future ahead of him and I would love to see him come back at some point, but I don’t know where his life is going to take him. Really sad to lose him.
“And Charlie, don’t even get me started. I’m furious with her for leaving. I’m losing all of my mates.” It’s not all bad news for Julia though as she is thrilled to welcome her long-time friend, Farrel Hegarty, to the cast.
The newcomer arrived on the show this month as “nightmare neighbour”, Lou Michaelis, and Julia said she has quickly settled behind the scenes. She added: “We’ve known each other for 20 years. It’s wonderful having her here. I’ve not done any scenes with her, but I did ask [show boss] Kate [Brooks] if we possibly could at some point. She’s wonderful and is perfect for Corrie.”
