Coronation Street viewers are speculating a fresh love interest for Ken Barlow – and it’s someone you wouldn’t expect.
The iconic character, portrayed by William Roache, has been a constant presence on the cobbles since his first appearance in 1960 when the actor was just 28 years old – quickly becoming a fan favourite.
As the longest-standing character on the show, Ken has been at the centre of numerous major plots. From affairs to his notorious romances, Ken’s stint in Weatherfield has been anything but dull.
He also famously had a long-lasting marriage with fellow icon Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride). The couple were together intermittently for several years and tied the knot twice – before Deirdre’s tragic passing in 2015.

However, over the past year on the cobbles, Ken’s life has taken a dramatic turn as he discovered that his carer Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) had been poisoning him, reports Leicestershire Live.
Cassie began looking after Ken following a severe fall, leading to an unexpected friendship. But things took a dark twist when Cassie started drugging Ken. In one instance, he ended up being rushed to hospital.

Eventually, the truth came to light and Cassie’s horrifying actions were revealed to everyone on the street.
But now, fans are certain a surprise romantic plot is on the horizon for Ken – and it’s with a former cobbles star.
Coronation Street fans have been speculating online that Maureen Webster, played by Sherrie Hewson, could return to the cobbles as Ken Barlow’s new love interest.

Fans are now predicting her comeback and potential romance with Ken. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer wrote: “It’s about time Ken has some romance in his life!” Another suggested: ” Bring back Sherrie Hewson’s character Maureen Webster for Ken.”
A third agreed: “Yes please I loved Maureen .” Echoing these sentiments, another fan added: “They would make a good couple, I can see it happening.”
