Coronation Street’s Debbie finds new romance with a returning character after Ronnie.

Coronation Street Debbie's new romance 'sealed' after Ronnie and it's with returning icon

Coronation Street fans believe they’ve figured out who Debbie Webster’s next love interest will be, and it’s a returning soap icon.

Debbie, portrayed by Sue Devaney, first graced the cobbles in 1984 as Kevin’s sister (played by Michael Le Vell), only to depart a year later and make a comeback in 2019.

It’s safe to say that Debbie has won over the hearts of viewers. However, this year on the soap, she was diagnosed with vascular dementia.

After noticing concerning symptoms such as forgetfulness and work errors, Debbie underwent dementia tests. Things took a frightening turn when she began experiencing blackouts, one of which resulted in a fall.

Following her shocking diagnosis – a secret she kept from everyone except her brother Carl (Jonathan Howard) – Debbie ended her engagement to Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), reports Leicestershire Live.

In the episode aired on June 20, Debbie’s family, including Kevin and Ronnie, discovered her diagnosis after she collapsed.

Once she regained consciousness, Kevin and Abi (Sally Carman) insisted on taking her to hospital. However, Debbie revealed that she already knows what’s wrong – she has dementia.

Now that the truth is out, some fans are speculating that Debbie will get back together with Ronnie. However, other viewers are predicting the return of a former legend to start a romance with Debbie.

Soap devotees on a Coronation Street Facebook fan group have been voicing their opinions, with one member stating: “As much as I like Ronnie I don’t think Debbie should end up with him.”

Another fan sparked conversation by mentioning the legendary Corrie character Curly Watts (Kevin Kennedy).

“They need to get someone like Curly back!” exclaimed the enthusiastic fan. This sentiment was echoed when another viewer chimed in: “Yes to this! They would be great together, I can just picture them now.”

Additionally, a fan added: “He’s def overdue a comeback.”

Curly is remembered for his stints on the street from 1983 to 2003, where his loveable but oft-unlucky character dabbled in various odd jobs until he eventually settled down with his second wife Emma Watts (Angela Lonsdale). He waved goodbye to Weatherfield in 2003, leaving to start afresh with Emma in Newcastle.
