Coronation Street’s David Platt was nowhere to be seen on the ITV soap on Friday, 27 December after he vanished from Weatherfield – wife Shona leading the search
Coronation Street’s David Platt left viewers worried after he disappeared in Friday 27 December’s episode. Following the revelation of his wife Shona’s affair and his mother Gail Platt’s permanent departure from Weatherfield, David went missing, leaving his family concerned in the latest instalment of the ITV soap.
Shona was seen frantically searching for her husband and leaving him messages. Unable to reach him, she turned to Adam Barlow for help following his recent argument with David. However, Adam was not in the mood for any drama after his hospital visit, which was due to David. David had gotten Adam drunk under the mistaken belief that he was the man Shona had been unfaithful with.
After a strange conversation with Kit Green, it appeared that David realised that Kit was the man Shona had actually slept with. Viewers were left in the dark about David’s whereabouts on Friday, ahead of a “massive stunt” that is set to have “massive consequences” for the street.
Throughout most of the episode, his children Max and Lily were left wondering where their father had gone, while Shona tried to conceal the truth. As the episode concluded, we saw David reading Shona’s messages pleading for him to return home, reports the Mirror.
He was shown outside in the cold, still dressed in his clothes from the previous day. With cuts on his face, he seemed distressed and out of character as he stumbled around before heading somewhere off-camera.
After observing his troubled demeanour, viewers speculated that David could be at risk of suffering a seizure due to his previous epilepsy diagnosis, or that he might self-harm.
Corrie’s producer Kate Brooks teased some explosive upcoming storylines in a chat with The Mirror. She revealed that “massive” developments were coming for David, especially after he stole the cash from Damon Hay and Harvey Gaskell.
According to Kate: “The story we’re telling is one of a very desperate David, trying to protect his family and keep Harvey and his goons at bay.”
She added: “He is struggling to navigate that, and struggling to pay back this big debt he has. He’s struggling to protect his family. It all comes to a massive head in early February, when we play a massive stunt that has huge consequences for David.
“So, in trying to protect everyone and do the right thing, he ends up losing quite a few things that he holds dear. So, a real journey for David. He’s well-intentioned, but he fails, messes up and makes mistakes, and there’s massive consequences not only for his own family, but for the wider community as well. Somebody does get embroiled in David’s downfall, which is quite unexpected.”
