Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has confirmed an exciting career move away from the cobbles. The actor is best known for his role as Billy Mayhew on the ITV soap, since he first appeared in Weatherfield in 2014. He arrived as the new partner of Sean Tully, before dating Todd Grimshaw and then Paul Foreman.
The Weatherfield vicar soon became a fan favourite and has been at the heart of some of the show’s major storylines. Last year, Billy’s onscreen husband Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) died in heartbreaking scenes after a battle with motor neurone disease (MND). Recent storylines have explored how Billy has struggled to deal with the impact of his partner’s death.
Daniel and Peter took home the award for Best Partnership at the Inside Soap Awards in 2024. They also received the award for Best Storyline at the Radio Times Soap Awards, for their portrayal of Paul’s struggle with motor neurone disease.

In recent weeks, Billy Mayhew has been caught up in the drama surrounding newcomer Theo Silverton and his new partner Todd Grimshaw. Theo’s jealously came to life as Todd met up with his good friend and ex-partner Billy for a drink in the Rovers.
Todd opened up to Billy about the ins and outs of his complicated relationship with Theo, who is still coming to terms with accepting his sexuality. But when Theo found out about Todd’s cosy chat with Billy, things went from bad to worse for Todd. Theo turned against him, and viewers were surprised to see a completely different, much darker side to Todd’s new beau.
Away from the drama in Weatherfield, Daniel confirmed an exciting career move. The 45-year-old is arriving in Liverpool and returning to his theatre roots.
He is starring in Young Frankenstein The Musical at the Liverpool Playhouse Theatre. The show will run for five weeks, from December 3 to January 3.
He shared the news on social media as he said: “I’m so very excited to get started on this! An incredibly talented team of creatives. It’s a brilliant show. Hope to see you there!”
Daniel Brocklebank will lead the cast as Dr Frederick Frankenstein, taking over from Ore Odube after a run at the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester.
Joining Daniel in Liverpool will be Amelia Adams (Annie, Jersey Boys) as Elizabeth Benning. Returning cast members include Jessica Martin as Frau Blücher, Pete Gallagher as The Monster, Curtis Patrick as Igor, Simeon Truby as Inspector Hans Kemp/Harold the Hermit, and Julie Yammanee as Inga.
Daniel Brocklebank is expected to depart the cobbles soon, as the actor confirmed earlier this year that his time on the soap is coming to an end.
Daniel took to social media to announce his exit, as he shared a photograph of the script for Billy’s exit storyline. He wrote: “Bye bye Billy.”
The actor shared a statement with The Mirror at the time. He said: “I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work.
“I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.”
