Coronation Street Legend Opens Up on Potential Retirement Amid Tough Storyline

Coronation Street legend Sally Dynevor has opened up about her future on the ITV soap, ahead of a huge milestone. The 62-year-old made her debut in Weatherfield back in 1986 when Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) drove past her in his van, and accidentally splashed her while she was waiting for a bus.

Despite this awkward moment, the pair went on to marry and have two daughters together; Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan) and Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent), before divorcing for a second time.

Sally is known on the Cobbles by the same name, with much of her time on the soap being focused around her love life. Since 2013, she’s been in a relationship with her ex-husband’s Kevin’s best friend Tim Metcalfe, played by Joe Duttine.

Their current storyline involves the pair taking on the duty of looking after Louise (Farrel Hegarty) and Mick Michaelis’ (Joe Layton) young children. The pair stepped up to the role after Mick and Louise’s arrests for separate crimes.

“Her own girls have grown up and gone, and this is a new chapter in her life,” the actress said of her character’s fostering duties. “Although it’s hard, she’s really enjoying it.” In recent years, the ITV star has scaled back on her filming commitments, and she’s been enjoying her new spare time.

Last year, she extended her work with ITV and joined the Loose Women panel alongside her co-star Sue Cleaver. In 2026, Sally will mark 40 years on the soap, and while this may seem like a good time to reassess her life, the actress says she has no plans to retire.

“I’m not a retiring person. I’ve got such a lovely routine now,” she added to Woman’s Weekly magazine. “I want to keep working, it’s good for my brain. So, if they still want me, maybe I’ll be in the show in my 70s and 80s.

“I’ll just keep going. It’s such a great job and I feel very grateful I’ve still got it after 40 years. I’m not in it as much as I used to be, but I drove in the other day and as the barrier went up I just had this huge smile because it felt like I was home.”

Earlier this year, Sally’s co-star Sue announced she was stepping away from the soap as Eileen Grimshaw after 25 years. In a statement released back in January, she said of her exit: “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street.

“The door is still firmly open, but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.”

Sue’s announcement came after another long-term character, Helen Worth, stepped away as Gail Platt in 2024, after 50 years.

“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew,” she said when her exit was announced.

“The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
