There were rumours of introducing extra bank holidays in 2025

Over the coming months, there will be seven bank holidays for people across England and Wales to enjoy. The government confirmed in November 2024 that there are no plans to introduce extra bank holidays this year to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two.
The Daily Express had reported that ministers were contemplating additional days off to mark Victory in Europe (VE) Day or Victory over Japan (VJ) Day in 1945. However, Downing Street clarified in November that this was not being considered.
Being aware of the upcoming bank holidays in the UK can help you plan your time off and make the most of these dates. If a bank holiday falls on a weekend, a ‘substitute’ weekday becomes a bank holiday, usually the following Monday.
It’s crucial to remember that your employer is not obligated to give you paid leave on bank or public holidays. Bank holidays might also impact how and when your benefits are paid.
