Caroline Flack’s mum grows emotional in TV interview as she says, “I want the myth gone”

Caroline Flack’s mum, Christine, was visibly emotional during her appearance on ITV’s This Morning on Friday, 7 November, as she discussed the events leading up to her famous daughter’s tragic death, stating “I want the myth gone”.

The beloved X Factor and Love Island host tragically took her own life at the age of 40 in February 2020.

Earlier this year, Disney+ revealed plans for a new documentary featuring Caroline’s mum, Christine Flack. The programme will see Christine attempting to understand the final moments of her daughter’s life, whilst also celebrating her successful career.

At the time, the CPS barrister claimed that Caroline had struck her boyfriend at the time, Lewis Burton, with a lamp, causing “significant injury”.

However, he did not require any medical attention and both Caroline and Lewis denied the use of the lamp. A mobile phone was confiscated from the scene by police, reports Wales Online.

Appearing on Friday’s episode of This Morning alongside hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, Christine held back tears as she said: “The most important thing is to remember her the way she was, because she was like you saw, she’d come in a room and it changed.”

She went on to say: “I want the myth of her beating someone with a lamp completely gone, you know. And I think this film proves that, and all those awful headlines that were out there at the time, you know, don’t just believe everything you read about someone.”

Christine firmly believes that if her daughter had been able to overcome her struggles, she would have returned to work in television.

She shared: “She did seek help from time to time, she wasn’t the perfect person. She had lots of troubled times and maybe someone else could have got over this, she just couldn’t.”

Christine continued: “Her whole world just disappeared. Her home and her jobs. You can understand why her jobs were taken at the time, I think she would have got them back.”

Caroline Flack: Search For The Truth is set to be released on Monday (November 10). The film is produced by Curious Films, which made 2021’s Caroline Flack: Her Life And Death.

A new two-minute trailer for the documentary sees Christine sharing text messages and voice notes Caroline sent to her family and friends prior to her death.

Asserting that her daughter’s ‘phones tell the real story’, Christine goes through a number of messages the TV star left.

The trailer ends with Caroline saying in a voice message that she thinks she ‘should make a documentary about all of this’.

Explaining why she wanted to make the documentary, Christine said: “I wish I’d done it then, before she took her own life, and that’s my biggest regret.

“That I wasn’t shouting like this, then. But now, I’ve got nothing to lose, the worst thing in the world happened, with losing Caroline..

“People think they know what happened to Caroline. But the reality is much darker. There’s so much information the public haven’t seen. I want the truth to come out.”
