Ben Affleck has just dropped $20.5 million on an equestrian estate in Los Angeles, a matter of weeks after staking a “for sale” sign in front of the home he owns with Jennifer Lopez amid rumors of marital strife.
The Academy Award-winning actor, 51, using a trust with his business manager listed as trustee, snapped up the five-bedroom residence last week, property records show. He bought it from David Calvert-Jones, the nephew of billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
Located on the border of Brentwood and Pacific Palisades, the house was built in 1941 by prolific California architect Cliff May, who is best known for developing the suburban, post-war “dream home.”
Set on nearly an acre, the walled and gated property has been “reimagined” in the decades since, according to the listing with Blair Chang of the Agency. The firm’s Santiago Arana represented Affleck. Both agents, through a representative, declined to comment on the deal.
A representative for Affleck didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Described as a “garden retreat,” the home has lush landscaped grounds “that whisk you away to the pages of a storybook,” the listing said.
The main house has an open floor plan with wood-beamed ceilings and garden views throughout. There’s a chef’s kitchen, an office with a fireplace and a “serene” primary suite, according to the listing.
Plus there’s a family room, a den, walk-in closets and a media room, according to TMZ, which first reported the sale.
The grounds are home to plenty of outdoor amenities, including a pool, a spa and a two-story guest house. There’s also stables, a walking ring and a tack room.
Earlier this month, Affleck and Lopez put their massive Beverly Hills mansion on the market for $68 million. The listing came months after rumors that the couple, who are reportedly estranged, were shopping the home around a mere year after buying it for nearly $61 million.
The pair, who got married in 2022 after reuniting some 20 years after they called off their engagement in the early 2000s, purchased the megamansion following a house hunt that went on for several months, The Wall Street Journal reported at the time.
