Stacey Dooley has praised the people of Liverpool and referred to herself as an “honorary Scouser” after a friendly encounter in the city. The acclaimed BBC documentary presenter moved to Liverpool with her partner Kevin Clifton and daughter Minnie in 2023.

The couple moved to the city after only one house viewing, the move meant Stacey was living closer to her mum who is originally from the area. Stacey has previously explained what the move meant to the family, admitting: “It was a mixture of reasons but primarily, she’s our nanny. And I wanted the baby close to her nan and it’s a lovely relationship to nurture. The pair of them are thick as thieves. I don’t really exist when my mum’s around.”

Taking to Instagram over the weekend, Stacey told followers about a kind gesture she had experienced after a show in Liverpool. In a video she said: “I’ve just finished in a gig in Liverpool and I am so touched by this, so I was speaking to this guy called Jimmy and he had this Liver Bird [badge] on his jacket, I think they’re called Bertie and Bella.

“We were just talking about the city in general and then he took this [badge] off and give me it. He said ‘you’re a Scouser now so you can have this’. And this is what day-to-day interactions are like in this city. I know I am like a broken record but isn’t that just so lovely? I’m made up with that.”

Stacey added that the last couple of people who had received the badge were John Bishop and Sue Johnston, describing them as “mega company”. The video message finished with the TV personality calling herself an “honorary Scouser” and telling followers “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

The comment section was filled with people agreeing about the kindness of Liverpool as a city. Violet wrote “I moved into the city six weeks ago after years of trying and have never felt more at home. Genuinely the loveliest and most friendly place in the world. YNWA.”

Chelsea commented: “Because we love our own and we love people who give our city a chance. Instead of believing the nonsense about it” and another fan replied “I was born and live in Manchester yet me and my Husband always feel more at home in Liverpool. My Dream is to sell up and Move to Liverpool very soon as for us that’s where we feel happy and relaxed.”

Lynds responded “Best city in the world. My mum was a Scouser and always called her the littlest liver bird with the biggest heart” and Tony told the BBC star “That’s what Scousers are like, you’re one of us now & we look out for our own.”

The lovely comments about the city continued from those living the city and beyond. One person from Scotland commented “The warmth of the people in Liverpool is like nothing I’ve ever experienced anywhere in the world as a Scotsman the Scousers are the salt of the Earth.”

Stacey and professional dancer Kevin met when they were partnered up on the 2018 edition of Strictly Come Dancing. Their romance blossomed on the way to lifting the glitterball and their relationship has continued to go from strength to strength since.

Kevin told the ECHO last year: “Stacey loves looking at houses on the internet. Looking at interiors and stuff is her favourite thing to do.

“She just happened to have seen something she liked and thought ‘oh it’s not too far away from my mum’. We went and had a look and the second she walked in was like ‘I love it and I can really see us living here’.

“It all happened really quickly and we love it. Our little girl is going to be raised as a Scouser.” Stacey regularly shares an insight into her new home’s renovation project on Instagram.
