BBC presenter Clive Myrie sparks serious concern as fans notice his eye ‘drooping’ during live broadcast

BBC presenter Clive Myrie left many viewers worried during Monday night’s News At Six as his left eye appeared to be drooping while presenting the live broadcast.

BBC News At Six viewers expressed their concern on Monday (6 January) when they noticed that presenter Clive Myrie’s left eye seemed to droop increasingly during the broadcast. The seasoned journalist was dressed sharply in a black suit, white shirt, and navy blue tie, but it was his half-closed left eye that caught the attention of the audience.

Viewers quickly took to social media to voice their worries, with comments such as: “I hope Clive Myrie’s OK. A lot of us are noticing his droopy eye.”

Another asked: “What’s the matter with Clive Myrie’s left eye?” and “What’s wrong with Clive Myrie’s eye tonight?”.

Addressing the concerns directly, Clive reassured fans on his own X page, sharing: “Happy N.Year everyone and thank you all for your concern over my left eye. It’s nothing serious, just an infection. I did think about wearing an eye patch, but the boss said no! A bit like Long John Silver. He wasn’t having any of it! Cheers.”

Additionally, a BBC spokesperson confirmed to The Sun that “Clive is fine and just has an eye infection.”, reports the Mirror.

Clive has been a familiar face on the BBC since 1987, starting as a trainee local radio reporter and is now also known for hosting the iconic quiz show Mastermind.

The presenter made headlines in October when it emerged he hadn’t declared all his earnings from corporate gigs over the last year. As a BBC staffer, he’s meant to fess up his extra work to Auntie monthly, but some slipped through the net.

Since 2021, when Tim Davie, the big boss at the Beeb, called for clear-as-glass transparency, all TV faces have to spill the beans on their side hustles every quarter. A Beeb spokesperson chimed in, saying they’ve had a word with Clive to “remind him of his responsibilities”.

They shared: “We have spoken to Clive to remind him of his responsibilities with regards to the external events register, and he has apologised for these errors.”

Meanwhile, Clive said sorry on X for the mix-up, owning up to botching the paperwork. He wrote: “An apology – I’ve had several administrative issues, and I didn’t fill out the correct paperwork for some of my external public events, so they haven’t been published until now.”

“I’ve told the BBC I won’t be doing any more paid outside gigs for a good while, except for a few I’d already agreed to, to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
