Darwin Nunez’s girlfriend Lorena Manas has given birth to her third child. The Liverpool striker has not been a guaranteed starter this season but has had some key moments to help the Reds climb to the top of the Premier League.
Nunez came off the bench in Liverpool’s last game, a 1-0 defeat with Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup. He could feature in the last ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park tonight against Everton.
When asked about Liverpool’s FA Cup exit yesterday, Slot revealed Lorena had given birth to her third child. The couple have been together since Nunez was plying his trade in Spain with La Liga side Almeria, and have a son together who is also called Darwin. Lorena also has a daughter with ex-Barcelona star Aleix Vidal, called Chloe.
Slot revealed Nunez had travelled to Lorena’s home country of Spain for the birth of the child shortly before the Plymouth match. Speaking about how he and the squad prepared for the game, he said: “It was difficult because the plan was of course to play with Joe (Gomez) for 60 minutes or longer.
“The plan was to start Curtis (Jones) but he came out Sunday saying that he didn’t feel well enough to play. So then all of a sudden we missed two important players. I think people know Darwin’s situation that he became a dad one or two days before the game and that happened in Spain, so he came in a bit later.
“So there were some circumstances that weren’t perfect. The idea was to play with a stronger team than we did, but still this team should have been able to win that game.”
Neither Nunez nor Lorena have spoken publicly about their new child. An Instagram post from Lorena and Nunez last month showed her baby bump. She tagged her partner in the post with the caption “mami and papi” and added a red love heart emoji.
Nunez confirmed last November that her partner was pregnant. The striker celebrated his goal against Aston Villa by sucking his thumb and putting the ball up his top. In an Instagram post afterwards, he shared several pictures of the baby scan as well as snaps of Lorena and her baby bump.
He said at the time: “Words cannot express the happiness we feel for this new life we have created together, our family grows, your brothers and your parents are waiting for you with the utmost excitement to give you all the love in the world.”
