Alan Carr has spoken out after being tipped to become the next host of Strictly Come Dancing. Alan has been rumoured to be taking over from Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman when they depart at the end of the year, following his triumph as winner of The Celebrity Traitors, but Alan worries the role would prove too “nerve-racking” for him.

The 49-year-old comedian said he was “too sweaty” to take on the primetime role. Speaking to the Radio Times magazine, he said: “Apparently my name is in the hat for Strictly Come Dancing, which is an honour, but I haven’t spoken to anyone at the BBC.

“You saw how sweaty I was in the castle on The Celebrity Traitors, imagine me live on a Saturday night coming down those stairs on Strictly – people would slip in a pool of my sweat while doing the fandango.

“It’s lovely to be thought of, but it’s probably a bit too nerve-racking.”

The Daily Mail newspaper previously reported Alan was under consideration for a position on the BBC talent show.

An insider told the publication: “People just love Alan … [Viewers] loved him and [think] he has been the star of the Traitors..

“He has got to be up there with the BBC to get a huge new role … Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, Strictly.”

A BBC source added: “Alan has always been a star – but it’s amazing what a month in a Scottish castle can do to elevate your career. He’s ours now.”

Alan triumphed in The Celebrity Traitors after becoming the sole traitor to reach the final, and throughout the series, the television personality confessed he couldn’t control his sweating due to anxiety.

He said: “I thought I wanted to be a Traitor, but I have a sweating problem, and I can’t keep a secret … What am I going to do?”.

But, he overcame his nerves and by the end of the show he was convinced he was actually a very good liar after managing to convince all the other players he was a faithful.

He said: “I started this game as a bit of nervous wreck.

“I’ve thrown some really good friends under the bus, I’ve murdered national treasures in plain slight.

“I’m clearly a better liar and a better Traitor than I thought I was.”
