A first look at Bridgerton star Bessie Carter in new period drama Outrageous has been unveiled.
The new U and U&Drama series sees the actor portray real-life figure Nancy Mitford, with the series following the true story of the Mitford daughters.
New stills have been released from the six-part drama, including Carter in character as well as the wider cast.
The show, which is based on Mary Lovell’s biography The Mitford Girls, follows “the story of six aristocratic sisters who refused to play by the rules, their often-scandalous lives making headlines around the world”.
“Set against the gathering storm clouds of the 1930s, masked by the decadence, frivolity and lavishness of British high society, Outrageous will bring the full, uncensored story of the Mitford sisters to the screen for the first time,” the synopsis adds.
“A story of family bonds, betrayals, public scandal, political extremism, love, heartache and even imprisonment – a family saga like no other, this is the Mitfords as they really were: unapologetic, outrageous and utterly human.”
Also on board are The Control Room’s Joanna Vanderham as Diana Mitford, The Jetty’s Shannon Watson as Unity Mitford, Casualty’s Zoe Brough as Jessica Mitford, Stonehouse’s Orla Hill as Deborah Mitford and The Hunger Games’ Isobel Jesper Jones as Pamela Mitford.
Belgravia: The Next Chapter’s Toby Regbo plays Tom Mitford, My Lady Jane’s Anna Chancellor is Sydney Freeman-Mitford, and The Veil’s James Purefoy plays David Freeman-Mitford, while Bridgerton’s Calam Lynch plays Bryan Guinness, Love Is in the Air’s Joshua Sasse is Oswald Mosley, and Becoming Elizabeth’s Jamie Blackley is Peter Rodd.
“I am thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity to bring someone as brilliant as Nancy Mitford to life,” Carter previously said in a statement.
“She was one piece of a truly fascinating family of remarkable and unique women, and I can’t wait to tell their story.”
