The Simpsons to return with a new movie after 20 years as fans say ‘they kept their promise’

The Simpsons are set for another movie release almost two decades on from the first release

The Simpsons is poised for another cinema outing nearly two decades after its debut film hit screens. The beloved animated series will grace the big screen once more, following its triumphant 2007 release.

The announcement came via social media, revealing the fresh movie adaptation is scheduled for July 23 2027. While storyline specifics remain under wraps, news of a new cinematic version of Matt Groening’s enduring Fox animated creation has left fans thrilled.

20th Century Studios broke the news through its Instagram page. Posting an image of Homer Simpson’s arm reaching to snatch a pink doughnut adorned with sprinkles from a table.

The accompanying text declared: “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”

On Twitter/X, one enthusiast commented: “Bart kept his promise… The new “SIMPSONS” movie is slated for July 23, 2027, filling the date vacated by a Marvel Studios movie.”, reports the Mirror.

“The second Simpsons movie is Disney’s second animated feature aimed at older audiences.”

Beneath the Instagram reveal, supporters delved deeper into the significance, referencing one of Bart’s memorable classroom punishment lines. “They kept their promise and did not wait 20 years to make a sequel. They took 19 years and 363 days,” one follower observed.

Another commented: “I will not wait 20 years to make another movie”.

“First movie came out July 27, 2007. 2nd one is July 23, 2027. They were THIS CLOSE to making it 20 years!

“Is it too early to mark my calendar? ,” queried one fan, while another echoed Mr Burns’ catchphrase, stating: “Mmm… another Simpson movie… Excellent.”

The inaugural film was released after the renowned yellow family had featured in 400 episodes over a span of more than 20 years. While die-hard fans were quick to laud the film, critics offered mixed reviews.

“It scrapes three stars by the skin of its teeth thanks to a handful of decent gags but, given the anticipation – not to mention the hype – surrounding The Simpsons Movie, this has to be the most disappointing film of the year,” penned the Mirror’s critic at the time.

They even suggested that Homer had foreseen the film’s downfall from the outset when he remarked: “I can’t believe we’re paying to see something we did on TV for free!

“If you ask me, everyone in the cinema is a giant sucker!”.
