Amir Khan has received the backing of his fans after taking to social media to ask people to ‘stop playing this game’. The popular TV doctor, who is often on the likes of This Morning, is also known for spreading messages about health or discussing everyday issues on social media.
He took to Instagram to discuss a recent episode that occurred in the gym that he described as ‘awkward’ – and he has asked people to stop doing it.
He explained: “Listen, we just need to stop playing this game because it is so awkward. I was at the gym today and a guy came up to me chatting, nice, it was a really nice conversation. He was telling me, knowing that I was a doctor, what he was doing to keep healthy, food-wise, exercise-wise, we’re having a nice conversation.
“And then he said to me, ‘guess how old I am? Guess how old I am?’ And that question fills me with dread because the only reason you’re asking is not so we can guess your age correctly, it’s so we can guess a lower age than what you actually are.
“And so I thought, ‘right, I don’t want to play this game’, but I’m in an awkward situation. So I guessed his age and aimed a few years lower than I thought it could be, just so everybody’s happy.
“I actually guessed his correct age and he was so upset about it. And he was like, ‘do I really look that old?’ I went, ‘well, how old are you?’ And he told me it was the same age I said. And I went, ‘well, that’s fine, you look your age’.
“But he wanted to look younger, but that’s not my fault. I don’t want to be put in that position. Please stop asking people to guess your age because you only want to guess lower. Let’s not play that game, man. It was really awkward. And then we had to work out in the same room for a while after. Oh my God.”
His fans quickly rallied around him to offer their support. One said: “I wish people would stop being so fixated about their age. We are born, we grow (age), and somewhere along that journey, we shuffle off this mortal coil where she is irrelevant. Just enjoy life day by day, spend less time in the mirror worrying what you look like and start living instead of trying to best something we never will!”
Another said: “ohh Amir I don’t know how you have the patience lol I always guess older and the looks says it all.. ohh well done, you deserve a medal champ.”
One person said: “I had the opposite happen a few weeks ago, I was talking to a neighbour who said “it’s alright for you, you’re only in your 60s” I really laughed as I’ve just turned 79!!! Rock on!”
Another person responded saying: “The question “how old am I” always fills me with dread, Im hopeless at guessing people’s ages!!! It’s a question I never ask as I might not like the answer. Mind I think I might start telling people I’m 80 next year instead of 70!!!”, while another answered: “He wanted his ego boosted.”
A final comment said: “One of the 7 year olds at school asked me how old I was. I told her to guess. She studied my face really hard and tapped her finger on her mouth deep in thought. She answered “well you’ve got more wrinkles than my Mum but less than my Nan” which was a great summary of where I fitted. Thought this was really cute!”
